I wish him all the best. He was needed, did what he was asked to do, unfortunately it didn't work out but he never ran his mouth or anything. Hopefully he will have a great time in Dallas and the short episode in silver and black will have helped him to get his career back on track.

Ratliff may probably appear in the starting lineups of the Spurs team next season, for this case, Dice would also be a backup at PF spot behind Duncan. Ratliff is still a decent low-post defender despite his age and capable of blocking shots, but dude is even more crappy than Damp on the other side of the floor, then Duncan would receive constant double-team and Duncan isn't as capable as Dirk of dealing with such a strategy. So my prediction is Dice will be along with Tim in the starting five for the normal starting 5 squad, while Bonner and Ratliff may also be picked into the starting lineups in some games for the sake of offense or defense.

Gooden is inconsistent. This doesn't improve Dallas much. Good luck to Gooden.

gooden's not a bad player, but IMHO - dallas f'ed up just by adding a PF who commands minutes.

if they stick him on the end of their bench

but if they actually play him - which they probably will - it will force dirk or marion (and sometimes both) to play large a percentage of minutes out of position.

gooden's size/speed/strength combo doesn't play anywhere other than PF. dirk's obviously best used at the 4 - and marion has been far more effective playing as a slightly undersized 4 as opposed to a big wing. if you can shut down his transition game (which the spurs have never had much problem doing) - his offense becomes a liability in the half court the farther away from the hoop he gets.

    2007 Finals

    Duncan OWNED Gooden

    LOL Mav fan

actually, in terms of one-on-one defense (when they were matched up, Z had a lot of time on him as well) - duncan didn't really OWN gooden.

it was more gooden's complete inability to adjust to anything else going on around him that allowed parker to drive the lane at will which was a problem.

this is a guy, who when drafted by Memphis, was asked by a reporter how it felt to be going to the land of elvis? gooden's response - "i always thought graceland was in tennessee?"

    <--- (WTF???!!!)

I don't remember SA needing Drew Gooden, ESPECIALLY with the front court that we have now.... If Pop and RC didn't make it a point to pursue him-- there's a reason for that!!! Dallas can have him.

Cuban is just playing 'fantasy basketball' with his roster just like Jerry Jones did with the Cowboys and look where it got Dallas!! To all you Dallas fans: no need to start acting like a lady..... don't worry, you'll be back on your knees in no time! Besides... do you REALLY think that Stern is ever going to allow Cuban to be a world champion?

    YHBT. HAND.

Just read this little bit of news. Gooden was an exciting pick up last year, didn't work out for us. I don't think he fits the Mavs very well, defensively he isn't going to do great in the half court. At 4.5 mil I would rather have McDyess. There is a huge difference between McDyess and Gooden, I don't even know why people bother to compare the two. Dice plays defense and rebounds. Have fun Mavs fans. Gooden had nothing but good things to say about the spurs, but then he signs with their rival after getting elimanted by them. Very Favrien.. touche Mr.Gooden....

The problem with arguing that Gooden was truly effective for the Spurs in 2009 is the fact that Gregg Popovich, in the most important game of the season for his team, didn't put Drew Gooden on the floor for a single second. Gooden put up relatively good numbers (albeit with some great inconsistency), but there's can sometimes be a big difference between putting up good numbers and being an effective player.

I think the Spurs have vastly improved themselves in the front court this offseason and part of that was finding players who can be more effective than Drew Gooden. That the Spurs were relying so heavily, last year, on players who weren't even as effective as Gooden was the tell-tale that 2008-09 was a doomed season.

I'm not sure that many coaches would necessarily put in a guy they picked up at the last minute in a game that was the most important of the year. Coaches are funny that way, they like their guys to not be tentative and to know their assignments. And no matter what anyone says, it's not easy to come to a new team in March and be ready to play in critical games. Let's remember that Pops DID play Bonner 20mpg and he sucked it pretty big time. So it appears that pops wanted some more outside shooting to offset what Parker was having to do.

So this means that next year (or at the trading deadline) the mavs will have the expiring 15million or so for dampier and 4.5million for gooden. Might be a good time to revamp that center position.

Are you saying Finley put you over the top in 2007? That there weren't literally 60 other dudes who could've averaged 7 points a game for you guys?
Not that would average 7 points a game while Mark Cuban was paying him $10 million.
