I agre with Jamstone there has been some slippage in Tim's game whther that has been health or age or both ...BUT he is still better than Parker at everything except speed, penetration, FT's and floaters

Tony Parker is my favorite Spurs player. I think because of Duncan he might go down as one of the most unappreciated, underrated point guards of all time. I've seen Tony score in places and from angles that should not be possible. Plays I'm not sure if ANYONE else in the NBA could finish, he finds a way to bank it off the glass and in. People might dislike him because his flash doesn't really fit the traditional mold of a Spurs player, but you never hear Tony talking negatively about his teammates -- heck, you don't even hear him trash-talking the other players on the court, even though there's maybe a handful of guys in the NBA who wouldn't have their ankles shattered by Tony in a game of 1 on 1.

He is one of the best finishers in the NBA. If he was truly given "all-star" treatment that he's due, he'd average 12-15 FTA per game, or more. He's seriously a top 3 point guard, and a top 10 guard in the NBA and there's likely little to no discussion about that. Very few players in the NBA can even come close to guarding him.

    That said....

It's Duncan. It's always the defensive anchor of a team. Tim makes the Spurs who they are. He is our iden y on offense and defense. He sets the will of this team. Parker may be the engine now, and Manu the gas (and Jefferson is the nitrous!! ) but Duncan is the steel-welded frame, the ruggedly built off-road chassis, and the rotating driveshaft that powers the Spurs. He has been for the past, oh, 9 years now. That won't change for another couple seasons at least.

When a player can go for 20-10 a night and makes your team a defensive juggernaut for a decade, it doesn't matter who else you have on your team. He's the man.

I always felt Manu was more of a leader because of his passion on the court.
Maybe as far as the energy he brings but I've never thought of Manu as a leader. Yes he goes out and plays with everything he has but he seems to try to stay out of things and not get involved in helping the other guys. I've never really seen him take over and tell the other guys what to do like he does with his NT. Tim is the leader all the way.

Tim Duncan, still. Maybe if you did this next year, I'd say Parker.

I have had tons of arguments about who is currently the man on the Spurs (me arguing that was Tim) with a lot of Spurs fans that didn't vote on this poll or voted for Duncan.

Ill admit it. Voted for TP. Now if TD comes back and can play through the year without his knee giving him too much trouble of course TD is the most important in the playoffs. If he is like he was last year tho id say TP is the man and all signs point to tp being even better next year...he's hitting his prime the next few years, he will be a force next year.

I have to agree not a great poll arguing players on the same team.

It should be Duncan or Pau or Duncan or Dirk.

Right now? It's a toss up, however I'd give the slight edge to Duncan.

I've gotten in several arguments with Spurs fans over this, I won't be surprised.
Spew fans are stupid to even have this debate. I say Spew fans simply because you never see this question anywhere else except a Spew fan site. But it does give us a little peek into the dumb s brains on this site. If they say Duncan you learn nothing. If they say Parker you know they have no business talking anywhere about anything. They lose all credit about any subject.

PARIS -- Spurs guard Tony Parker has a sprained ankle and injured thigh after colliding with an Austrian player during a recent basketball game.

    Parker

Parker is unlikely to be available to play for France in Thursday's game in Paris against Hungary in Eurobasketball 2009, according to sports daily L'Equipe.
The Spurs' star hurt his right thigh and ankle in a collision with Stjepan Stazic in a game Friday. Parker issued a statement saying he was hit in his thigh and turned his ankle.
The statement also said tests on Saturday showed no sign of ligament tears or other serious complications, and that he could resume training later in the week.

I picked Tony Parker, even though I'm a big Timmy fan as well. It's always been hard to compare big vs. small in terms of who's actually better. Who's the better player right now? Tony Parker. Who's the more important player? Tim Duncan, because he's a big guy.

This isn't going anywhere so I'm going to close it.

    WINNER: Tim Duncan - 76.67 % (69 votes)

    LOSER?: Tony Parker - 23.33 % (21 votes)
