all of our showers have tiled ceilings, but we weren't here during the renovations, so i don't exactly know how they did it.
you would probably have to replace the drywall with the green or rock drywall.
Okay I need some advice. My shower stall has ceramic tile up to 16 inches from the ceiling. The ceiling is peeling and all yucky from humidity. I have dried the place out for a couple of days and scraped off the peeling stuff. The ceiling is real smooth so I was going to just paint with waterproof paint. Then my son suggested we extend the tile up the rest of the wall and even tile the ceiling like steam rooms have. I consulted my mentor (my dad) and he said absolutely do not ever attempt to tile a ceiling!! Why not? He said what if it falls down on someone. I'd be the only person at high risk so that's not an issue.
So have any of you all ever tiled a ceiling or heard of someone who has? Did it work? I've done floors and kitchen backsplashes and never had any trouble.

You really should look into installing an exhaust fan so you don't have any more problems like this in the future with any other areas of the ceiling, wall.
Oh, and yes you can tile a ceiling.
I have an exhaust fan, but it's not too near the shower!
It's no big deal if you mix the mastic right and make sure the tiles are bedded good. It shouldn't fall down.
That being said I would just paint it with Kilz and then a good quality enamel.
Tiling the ceiling seems a bit too much. Personally, I'd go with the waterproof paint.
Try putting in a stronger fan.
ever been to mexico? yeah i don't think it would be much of a big deal unless your tile weighs like 10 lbs each.
Oh yeah, if you decide to tile it you should install backer board on the ceiling first. your mastic will get a much better "grip' than it would on sheetrock.
your idea sucks.
Care to explain?
Exhaust fans suck air out of the room...
Along with the moisture in the air, correct?
I am aware of how an exhaust fan works.
he was making a joke.
your idea sucks because that is what the fan is supposed to do.
get it?
Apparantly I didn't. Must be more tired than I thought.
Thanks. Think I'll go to bed now.
