Correct. Different people, culturely, pursue and value different things. I had a fine Indian surgeon a few years back, that I entrusted with my life. I'm pretty sure his son sucked at basketball, but probably had some kick ass SAT scores. Not to say I would run away or scoff at a Dr. of a different race. The ER doc I had was hispanic, and a fine fine doctor. Very reassuring and nailed my diagnosis in short order.
Obviously, once anyone has achieved that place, nothing matters. Race, gender, background, nationality.
We're talking about what gets 'em there and culture plays a big part in that in the big picture. You can't be an ER doc if you don't graduate high school.
These kids, more than not often of color, are trashing their lives before they start, and that's a sad thing AND bad for me, bad for you, bad for America.
I will not play a part in helping them justify it.
