If the Spurs aren't showing any genuine interest then the guy can do w/e the he wants. Thats pretty ing selfish to say he can't join this team and that team. I'm just glad he ain't trying to be a Laker. Its not his fault the Spurs shipped him off.

And lol at him stopping Manu. You guys make it sound like he never lost a step and he is still NBA all defense 1st team or something... He's old.. I love him for what he has done for the Spurs and out of respect towards Bowen I wouldn't mind him retiring a Spur and contribute in some form or another. But too think he is still the same Bruce Bowen we have seen for many years is some serious denial...

    Bowen is a Loyal man...
This is why I get frustrated when people throw the word "loyal" around. The Spurs had no problem trying to trade Bowen during the season nor in trading him this summer. Why is he supposed to show some sort of loyalty to the Spurs by never playing for another team?

Currently, he owes them nothing, and they owe him nothing. They paid him what they promised in his contract, and he did his job. He worked hard and tried to the best of his ability to contribute and to help the Spurs win. His contract is over, and BOTH sides are free to do as they choose. If you think it fine for the Spurs to trade him away, then it is just as fine for him to play elsewhere if he so chooses.

Yeah, true that. Some people here act like if Bowen does not get signed by the Spurs that he will show loyalty so much and sleep outside the At&t center until signed in a nice warm blanket. Don't think so, Spurs and Bowen have been a good mesh but the NBA is a business and if he feels like playing for the Celtics so be it.

Bowen didn't have it easy money-wise growing up so he definitely knows the value of money. If he signs with another team, he earns the vet minimum doesn't he? That's alot of money in most people's books. Grab it while you can Bruce.

he already said he would never put a Laker uniform. "LA is not for Bruce"

he also would never play for fattass "chuck shots as much as you can" Karl. please

why would he play for non-contenders like the blazers and mavs???

I don't think Bruce won't play out of any sense of loyalty to the Spurs. I think he won't play because he had a rocky upbringing and wants to do better by his kids. It's bad enough going out on road trips as a player, but I can't imagine him either uprooting his family to chase a year at vet min, or playing in another city and being TOTALLY out of his children's lives for anywhere from 6 months to 8 months with a le contender. He's already making $2M this season for doing nothing, and has shown smarts by starting a business with his wife and buying some commercial real estate. Unlike 90% of NBA players, I'll bet Bruce still has most of the money he's made over the years, either in investments or real estate.

What I'd really like to see him do is become the backup color commentator for the Spurs games. Sean only works about half of them, and most of the subs they bring in suck. He'd only be away from home like 20-25 nights depending on road trip configurations.

Bruce will always be a Spur, regardless of who he ends up playing for this season. Im sure he understands its all a business and if he plays for the Lakers or whoever, the important thing is he picks up a paycheck.

Bowen picked up by Phil Jackson and then owning Finley as Dumassovich tries overplaying his boi once again. That would be classic.

This is why I get frustrated when people throw the word "loyal" around. The Spurs had no problem trying to trade Bowen during the season nor in trading him this summer. Why is he supposed to show some sort of loyalty to the Spurs by never playing for another team?

True, but if you're talking about the thread i started, it was the idea of keeping Mrs. Popavich (Finey) while passing on the now available Bruce. That would be disloyalty to the max.

While I'm sure Bruce still has enough gas in the tank to defend the best of them, it's not like he can cover Tony, Manu, RJ, AND Tim.
The point, however, is that he can guard Kobe Bryant. More to the point, he has a reputation (even acknowledged by Kobe) for guarding KB -- that's huge in the playoffs when it comes to foul calls.

Kobe has a big reputation as an offensive force and Bowen has a big rep as a defender. The Spurs need a "name" defender on Kobe in the playoffs in crunch time.

That may not be right, it may not be in the rules, but it's the reality.

It's not as if he's in the big need to get a ring or more money! Spurs already gave him both! He'll either come back with the Spurs or retire!!

Do you think Bruce would go to LA? He was born there, plus Kobe wouldn't have to worry about getting a rash in the playoffs....

Hope not, it would really suck!

Bowen would be good for Cleveland, even if he doesn't play a lot.

Seriously, who on the current Cavs roster can defensively challenge LBJ in practice?

I agree. The refs will let bruce get away with as much as kobe does. Fair game. I always been for making some major moves but I never implemented bruce in those moves. He had his worst season because they went away from him. If he plays elsewhere you better bet your life savings he will make us feel it. Even at his advanced age he can cause problems for any of our guards and it doesn't help that he knows there tendacies to boot. But best of wishes to bruce. He is still my boy.

Best of luck to you Bruce.

Damn this makes me sad, but Bruce deserves greatness.

It was always The Big 4.
