So the compe ion is over before it even starts.

There is no compe ion for the starting job opposite of Roy Williams, according to receivers coach Ray Sherman.
    It's Patrick Crayton's job.

That's no knock on Miles Austin, the speed threat many thought would challenge Crayton for the role. Austin is off to a good start in camp, but Sherman believes that the more experienced, consistent Crayton has earned the right to start.

"Patrick is the guy right now," Sherman said. "Patrick is having a very good camp, and I think the guys are really in tune. They don't care about who starts. The only thing we want to do is be productive and help this team get to where we want to go, and that's basically where the focus is now."
Every where I look, San Antonio's own, Sam Herd isn't even in the conversation. Although Sam does a decent job with his SAM CAM on News 4, that seems to be the only thing he's good at.

"Patrick is the guy right now"

I think that is the key. He has the most experience of the WR's not named Roy. It makes sense at this stage of camp but if Austin or Hurd outplay him, they will get their shot. , I hope Crayton can become consistent for a change.

Sam Hurd has performed the best out of all WR in camp so far according to most media people.

The Cowboys have some ty WR's. Good news is they have two good TE and 3 good RB and a QB that can create. Should have never paid Williams all that cash and let T.O go. Stupid. Go get a vet.

Williams is a proven reciever and T.O. was more headache than he was worth

I've hear rumors that the Cowboys might be interested in Matt Jones if the other guys don't really step up. Should be interesting.

Supposedly he had plantar flascitis (sp?). Anyways, I agree that the Cowboys shouldn't have let go T.O. He wasn't their problem. If anything, everyone should have had a sit down talk, discuss the situation. Let the T.O./Williams thing work out for one full year and see what happens. See how it produces. Then, if you're still having "problems" with T.O., you can release him. It works out better, IMO.

You are the first Cowboy fan I've heard admit that T.O. wasn't the problem. Finally someone that is almost not a ridiculous homer.

How's the new and improved RW looking? Let me guess: All world one practice and the worst WR on the field the next.

He is a Longhorn and a Cowboy. He is the greatest WR in the league.

Dude was hurt and had half a season last year. He is healthy now and will have a full training camp to prove to me he can be a real #1. So far, I am not convinced.

I hate the Longhorns, so that brings him down a couple of notches.. maybe 3 or 4.

We'll see what happens, I don't think Roy will even put up close to the same numbers as T.O. From what I've read, they're focusing on using all of their weapons now, and using more two tight end sets. I would still love to have T.O. on the team, but it's not going to happen, so we need to make do with what the Cowboys have. If those guys don't live up to expectations during Training Camp, I'm looking for the Cowboys to pick up a veteran through free agency.

MICHAEL KASECAMP - FROSTBURG, MD: All I keep hearing when it comes to the Cowboys right now is how "shaky" their receiving corps is. What I see is an unselfish group of unproven players waiting to make their mark on this team. Do you guys see any truth to this or are you concerned about the position as well?

Rob: I've always thought the criticism was a little overblown -- as long as Miles Austin and Sam Hurd stay healthy. Hurd arguably has been the most impressive receiver in camp so far. Austin has made some plays as well. Can Roy Williams replace all of Terrell Owens' production? Maybe not, but they'll try to offset some of it with the run, two-tight end sets featuring what looks like a much-improved Martellus Bennett, and Felix Jones as a receiving threat. You're going to see a different offense this year. Will it be better? We'll see. A lot of it will depend on Tony Romo's protection.

That's one DC.com writers perspective and there are others if you dig through the camp archives. I also heard Irvin say the same thing on his radio show but obviously I don't have a link for that.

Not being a but how has Williams proven he is a number one reciever in this league worth the amount of money they signed this guy for? Believe me....I like the Cowboys and I think they have just as good as chance as anyone in the NFC to win but not because of Roy Williams.

LOL Cowboys ... not to worry, Miles Austin is your savior this year. He will ensure you get at least an 8-8 record and finish no less than 3rd .....

    .... in your division

I have gone to everyday of camp so far here in SA and I would rank the recievers in the following order:

    1. Sam Hurd: He looks great out there. Best route runner on the team and he has excellent hands.

    2. Patrick Crayton: He definetly shows that he know the offense better than everyone else.

    3. Miles Austin: He is getting open with ease, but he is dropping to many balls.

    4. Kevin Olgetree: This young receiver is looking great out there. He looks like the best route runner out there and he hasn't dropped a pass.

    5. Roy Williams: He doesn't look as good as he should right now. He is dropping to many passes and I don't think he knows the entire offense yet.

    6. Jesse Holley: On pure talent he looks just as good as any of the receivers out there, but he doesn't know any of the offense at all.

    7. Willie Reed: He is the Fastest reciever out there and he could be a great kick returner.

I don't think any of the other recievers have a shot at making the team including Isaih Stanback who is hurt again of course. I also believe they will only take 5 or 6 of the WRs that I listed. I really hope Olgetree makes the team because he looks great out there. I think Reed and Holley may be the odd men out.

Yeah, that sounds like the WR I know.

Just one of those uber-talented guys who never seems to quite get it.

I haven't heard anything about this, but I would love it to be true. head Jerry needs to make this move.
