The Manning family fortune is about to grow again.
The Giants and Super Bowl-winning quarterback Eli Manning are on the verge of completing a blockbuster six-year contract extension, FOXSports.com has learned.
The two sides are still tweaking some details of the deal, but the team is hoping to have the deal done Wednesday, barring any major setbacks, a team source says.
Manning, who was drafted first overall in 2004, is entering the last year of his rookie deal. The new agreement will tack on six additional years and $97.5 million, with $35 million guaranteed.
The deal will make the 28-year-old the highest-paid player in the history of the Giants organization as well as the highest-paid quarterback (per year) in NFL history, a figure Giants fans would probably not argue with.
Last season, Manning played in his first Pro Bowl after throwing 21 touchdowns passes and only 10 interceptions in leading the Giants to a 12-4 record. It was his best season in terms of passer rating (86.4), completion percentage (60.3) and fewest interceptions.
He became a legend in New York by winning the Super Bowl in the 2007 season, knocking off the then-unbeaten New England Patriots.
Manning was named Super Bowl XLII's Most Valuable Player. With the Giants trailing late in the game, Manning — not even remotely known as a scrambler — somehow eluded a fierce Patriots pash rush and completed the now-famous third-down pass to David Tyree, who made a miraculous catch, trapping the ball on top of his helmet.
Later on that drive, Manning threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress that won it for New York.
For his career, Manning has completed 56 percent of his passes and has thrown 98 touchdown passes vs. 74 interceptions.

Brees? I don't think he's worth 97 million. He's never won a damn thing.
Maybe not that much, but good qbs are hard to find.

He did almost throw for 5,000 yards. But I agree to an extent. Production in the playoffs matters more than anything.

no without Plax Manning isn't going to go far, that was the weapon that got him past the teams in the playoffs.

I agree with dirk that good QBs are hard to find, and Eli is a REALLY good QB. Is he worth more than Brady and Peyton? Not in my opinion.

Not even close. The guy is a good qb but he isnt anything special. Without Buress, he sucked down the stretch last season. Now he is going to play an entire season without him. Good luck Eli.

It's got nothing to do with whether Manning deserves the money or not. Deserves is the wrong word. The question should be will the market bear what Manning will be paid? The answer is a resounding yes obviously. Eli Manning plays for the New York Giants. A big market team in the biggest of markets.
That means lots of revenue for the owners of the team. And more than enough to pay a quarterback who has brought them a Superbowl already and is sure to contend for many others down the road. Is it an obscene amount of money? Sure. Is he worth it based on his skillset? Of course not. But that's not what these contracts are based upon.

Please that guy sucked. He pisses me off everytime I hear him bad-mouthing Billick crying about why we released him after we won the SB. If it weren't for a few lucky passes and that ferocious defense we wouldn't had made it out of the first round that year. He had nothing to do with anything.
Although Dilfer did the one thing he was good at. Like was mentioned earlier about Eli, he was a game manager. He wasn't going to win games by himself but more often than not, he wasn't going to lose games either. He played within that system and had the benefit of a good running game and arguably the best defense over a season in history.
