M-1 Global: "Breakthrough" no longer in California according to Josh Gross on "Gross Point Blank":

"Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal and Don Frye were announced as the evening's headliners."

"Bill Douglas of the [CSAC] said that they hadn't heard a thing regarding the show," Gross said. "The original party involved informed them that the event was not happening, and they could take it off the schedule. There had been some meetings and some deadlines set, but those deadlines passed."

"Gross' report indicates that M-1 initially sought to relocate the show to Nevada."

... "I've never talked to anyone at M-1," Keith Kizer said. "'They need to get licensed."

it simply makes no sense to me.

When its all said and done I guarantee it will come out that Fedor never saw something like 30% of his money.

Fedor is throwing his career away. Nobody cares about this deal with Strikeforce. His fights there, will go largely unnoticed by anyone who is not a die-hard MMA fan. He's almost 33, the clock is ticking on his legacy..

he will end up a legend only worshiped by the die hards who got financially raped like boxers working under Don King.

It would appear even Aleks agree's.

UFC 101 is a good example of the machine of marketing and hype the UFC is. BJ Penn just lost the biggest fight of his career against GSP. Now thanks to the hype created by the UFC, the story is "Can he bounce back big and defend his LW le against Kenny Florian" In any other organization nobody cares about this fight but the UFC. Like almost all UFC events it's set to rake in a great PPV buy-rate. It makes stars and creates story-lines. Fedor is missing out..

Any chance that might be a reason why Fedor appears to be avoiding the UFC? I love the storyline aspect of it, but there's always the concern of it going WWE style (a la Brock's UFC 100 speech) and mangling someone's character. It's been said before that Fedor cares about his legacy as a person, so I'm just thinking that maybe the monetary price of his "storyline" might be, to him and his management, worthy of co-promotion.

But yea, M1 is a joke and without the name recognition of Fedor's Affliction opponents, I can't see Strikeforce getting anything near the Afflication PPV buys or publicity.

Exactly. As I've stated, outside of the Fedor fanatics, he's largely irrelevant despite being heralded as the #1 HW. If he was in the UFC and won the le, it would "cement" his legacy, he'd go into the UFC Hall, etc. He'd be known. As it stands, he'll go unnoticed and many won't know who he is in 5 years.

Even though Frank Shamrock is out of UFC, I know many noobs know who he is simply because they wanted to be "in the know" about UFC. What did they do? They went an got old UFC dvds, downloads, etc. They didn't go, "maybe we should get old Pride videos."

When UFC is becoming used as a verb, you know it's popularity is growning -- akin to Xerox becoming a verb. E.g., even in small shows, they are Ultimate Fighting.

It's hard to say the reasoning. Maybe he doesn't want to deal with that compe ion (or maybe his management didn't want him to deal with that compe ion)? He was lied to by his Management? I don't think anyone will ever know.

I don't see it either, and if Fedor is being paid anywhere near top dollar, SF isn't going to last long unless their CBS shows go big and pull in tons of advertising dollars. I just don't see that happening. Even though Kimbo's show was the highest rated, it still was a financial flop. I see SF going the way of the buffalo.

I want King Mo in the UFC RIGHT NOW!
Him and Rampage can get it on, but Mo needs more fights first.

    From Joe Silva:

I just touched base with Joe Silva and he explained this is basically what happened regarding Mousasi:

Mousasi called him Saturday because he suspected he had been lied to by his manager, Appy Echteld, regarding an offer of $40,000/$40,000 from the UFC and then encouraged to accept an offer from Strikeforce. According to what Mousasi shared, that amount was less than half of the purse agreement he had with Affliction but he trusted his manager and signed with Strikeforce. The UFC would have honored the Affliction deal of $125,000 purse plus win bonus had Mousasi signed with them.

Contrary to the claim made today by M-1 that Mousasi was on the phone during negotiations with Joe Silva for his services, Joe adamantly denies that is true. Had that been the case, there would have been no reason for Mousasi to call Joe to question Echteld’s claim of a $40,000/$40,000 offer from the UFC.

Appy called Joe yesterday to discuss the issue and Joe told him he knew he lied to Mousasi about the offer because Mousasi personally called him because he suspected that was the case. Appy then said there must have been some big misunderstanding because Mousasi wasn’t ready for the UFC because it’s the top of the food chain but thinks he will be one day (Mousasi’s record is 25-2-1, he’s on a 9 win streak with his last bout ending in rd. 1 VS Mark Hunt via armbar).

Joe approved the release of these details of our conversation.

"On Wednesday, word started to circulate that something wacky had happened regarding Gegard Mousasi’s negotiations with Strikeforce. The gist was that Gegard’s management hadn’t been honest about how much money the UFC had offered him. At first I thought this was another UFC attempt to drive a wedge between a fighter and their management, especially since Mousasi’s management was M-1 Global. But it turns out the UFC wasn’t involved in the situation at all.

Get this: After signing with Strikeforce, Gegard personally called the UFC to find out what they had offered his management … I guess all that “Fedor doesn’t know what’s really being offered” talk had him wondering if he was in a similar position. Now here’s where things get ed up: Gegard was told by M-1 that the UFC had offered him 40k/40k. It turns out that the UFC never made ANY offer for Mousasi, but if negotiations had taken place then they would have offered to match his Affliction contract (worth around 125k).

M-1 claimed that the 40/40 number was given to them from ‘a source inside the UFC’, whatever the that means. True or not, that’s not really how managers are supposed to handle business and at best it makes M-1 look incompetant (for the second time today) and at worst it makes them look like dishonest ers who lied to Mousasi to get him to sign the deal THEY wanted him to sign."
