Here's my list of potentially devastating on court combos for the 2009-2010 Spurs.

    (1) DeJuan Blair setting a screen for Mason to hit a 3 or clearing the path for Manu.

    (2) Parker penetrating with either or both RJ and Haislip on the wings.

    (3) Duncan post up play with Blair on the weak side to pick up offensive rebounds.

    (4) George Hill, Manu, RJ (Haislip ?), Duncan and Ratliff on a must stop defensive end game situation. Manu guarding the go-to player in isolation.

    (5) Mason, Manu, Finley, RJ, Bonner on a 3pt to tie situation.

    (6) Parker, Manu, RJ, McDyess, Duncan on a 2pt to tie situation.

    (7) George Hill, Manu, Finley (Haislip ?), Blair, Mahinmi coming of the bench 2nd team.

    (8) Small Ball - Parker, Mason, Manu, RJ, Dyess.

    (9) Big Ball - Manu, RJ, Haislip, Duncan, Mahinmi

    (10) Slow Grind it out defensive game - Hill, Manu, RJ, Duncan, Ratliff

    (11) Fast score quickly game - Parker, Mason, Manu, RJ, Dyess

If he doesn't play SF, then he isn't going to be on the court. Unless, he becomes Robert Horry and plays... uh... center?!

Like I said he is a wildcard who could be our 7th man or our 12th man.
Spurs will win it all if he's the 7th man, we'll loose if he's the 12th.

Look at our biggest realistic lineup:

    (9) Big Ball - Manu (6'6") , RJ,(6'7") Haislip (6'10"), Duncan( 6'11"), Mahinmi (6'11")

match that up with the Lakers:

    Bryant(6'7"), Artest(6'7"), Odom (6'10"), Gasol(7'0"), Bynum(7'0").

    our best 5 is problematic:

    Parker (6'2"), Manu(6'6"), RJ(6'7"), Duncan(6'11"), Dyess (6'9")

    Undersized in 3 positions!

No. I'm just saying that he could solve our height disadvantage.

    really ? don't think so.
Parker can't guard anyone. McDyess is going to have problems against either Gasol or Bynum. RJ has a 3" disadvantage against Odom.

Parker can't guard any pg on the lakers? Unless they got a new player, I don't agree.

Sure, the Lakers have Odom as a mis-match if they run him at the sf, but then they can't play artest, either. And odom is always a mismatch for them.

Parker is our mismatch; they have no one who can guard him...ariza could, but he is gone.

that's not really undersized. parker and ginobili have good size for their respective positions, RJ is actually closer to 6'8" making him a slightly taller SF. and if you switch duncan and dice, making duncan the center and dice the PF, this team is right up to size. dice is actually closer to 6'10 too since sheed is listed at 6'11 even though he's only a quarter inch taller than dice.

Haislip is a shooting PF. Think Bonner with more hops and finishing ability.

This season can't get started soon enough! I want to see what kind of talent we have how fast they pick up the system. I think Tony, Manu, RJ, Dice and Duncan present a matchup problem for any team, except the Lakers. Then, its the Odem mismatch verses the Tony mismatch. Should be a of a fun season.

He is no where near Matt Bonner shooting ability, but he can shoot. I think Horry is realistic-ish. Haislip is not a great defender. I'll keep saying this, other than a super athlete we have no idea what we are getting in Haislip.
Doesn't take much to surpass Bonner. I'd be shocked if he was good enough to become the 15th man, that's what he's worth these days.

I like how RJ is in every scenario except the "off the bench" one.

I pretty much agree with all those lineups, though obviously we won't see all of them given the variables in a game.

RJ, though, is still an underrated pickup IMO. Both underrated with Spurs fans, and underrated with the media. The dude is flat-out versatile, and he's really really good at a lot of things. But the fact that he meshes perfectly within the Spurs' system is going to be HUGE. You know, the whole "outcome is greater than the sum of its parts" thing.

... In regard to who will be the fan favorite though, who do you think? I vote either Blair or Haislip.

haislip is an interesting wild card.
Tolliver last year was too, how did that work out? Sounds like the same type of player to me.

Matt Bonner is a top 10 shooter in the NBA. Out of 100 three pointers he can make about 90. Brent Barry, Roger Mason and Ray Allen are better off the top of my head, but Matt Bonner is probably the best shooter over 6'8" in the NBA.
How was he late in the year last year in threes or in the playoffs? Those who can hit them all year long and then late shrivel up, he is one of those guys like so many we had in 01 and 02 who helped us lead the league then fizzled out late (Porter, Ferry, Smith etc.). I could care less about PCT. Jackson shot 32% from three in 03 and then in the playoffs hit so many HUGE ones for us when it counted, thats what I want.

He is no where near Matt Bonner shooting ability, but he can shoot. I think Horry is realistic-ish. Haislip is not a great defender. I'll keep saying this, other than a super athlete we have no idea what we are getting in Haislip.
Well Bonners shooting ability was that of a re ed kid late in the year when it counted so I would say it won't be hard to suprass his FG% late in the year, anyone can. I remember a playoff game where he was 2-7 and we won against the Mavs and fans on another board were treating it like he had a huge game and helped out alot, he is treated like a re ed kid to make us feel better about him at times.

Bonner is utter garbage, anyone can do better.

Tolliver could shoot but he couldn't do much else. Haislip, as I said before, attacks the basket, runs the floor, is crazy athletic and he can shoot a little.
I hope so, I never saw him play yet so I won't get too excited over an unproven guy who could not stick in the league yet (reasons why probably). Will he fit here? He could.
