What's to defend? I'm libertarian and I favor doing away with both of those programs...along with about 600 or so other federal cluster s.

The way Republicans are trying to rebrand themselves as Libertarians is pretty funny. Especially when they're using it just as a way to not call themselves Republicans.

"I'm a Libertarian... even though.. ya know... I don't believe in half the stuff a real Libertarian believes in."

Republicans calling themselves independent or "Libertarian" is so en vogue right now.

GOP will never touch medicare or social security because those old farts who vote republican in droves would stick their walking cane right up ass of any republican who tried to abolish either one of them.

A huge and entertaining failure was dubya's total failure to privatize Social Security, which would have been nothing but a huge gift to the financial sector, as was his the HIS govt guranteeing student loans and interest by private banks, instead of the govt as usual lending directly to students at lower rates. Magic Negro intends to kill that subsidy to bankers.

A financial sector in which most of us -- meaning us little people with 401Ks and pension funds and private retirement accounts -- are heavily invested.

Instead, you and me and everyone else on this board under the age of 40 will get nothing out of SS. So kiss all that money on your paycheck being deducted for SS goodbye.

    High five, boutons!

....if SS failed the dollar would lose all its value and 401Ks, pensions, et al would be worthless.

I love the tactic Obama is using now.

If we don't reform healthcare then medicare will bankrupt this country. Crowd cheers.

    5 minutes later...

You can trust the government to run a public option, just look how well medicare works. Crowd cheers.

So you people are pissed off by the wide-spread popular rejection of dubya giving SS funds to the banksters and other crooks in the financial sector?

It's already failed, it just doesn't know it yet.

Besides, I wasn't talking about it failing, I was talking about intentionally shutting the Ponzi Scheme down.

Sorry, I'm very tired at the moment. I missed that sad fact. Got off work almost 2 hours ago, time to go to sleep.

The world is not black and white and there are degrees to everything. Just because you see good enough with only one eye doesn't mean its a good idea to poke the other one out.

I don't think either one of those enities anyone would call a success. I heard this lame argument offered up regularly and most people who brought it up were embarrased before it was out of there mouths.
This nation doesn't object to helping the unfortunate,or the poor. What it objected to was Obama's and the DNC's attempt to breed a nation of unfortunate and poor.
