HOUSTON - NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports Friday the Houston Rockets have reached a contract agreement with newly acquired center David Andersen from Australia. League sources told FOX 26 Andersen and the Rockets have agreed to a two-year deal worth $4.8 million. The contract also includes a team option for a third year worth $2.7 million.
Andersen has also reached an agreement with FC Barcelona in Spain, where he played last year, on a buyout of his contract with that team, a significant part of the process. Sources close to that situation told FOX 26 the Rockets contributed $500,000 to the buyout, the maximum allowed under NBA rules.
The Rockets acquired Andersen's rights from the Atlanta Hawks Tuesday for a future second round draft pick and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The Rockets expect Andersen, 6-11, 245 pounds, to help fill the void left by Yao Ming who will undergo surgery on his broken left foot and is not expected to play during the upcoming season.
Last season Andersen averaged 11.1 points and 4.1 rebounds in helping FC Barcelona win the Spanish National Championship and a berth in the Euroleague Final Four.
Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey has not been available for comment on this story.

Divac was a very good low post player. It was Webber that played high post.

I think Morey is hoping that Anderson can play down low too. At least he's hoping that Anderson working with the Rockets Big Men coaches can impact him. But for the most part, he'll play high post as the control tower to start the offense.

Here is a video with David Anderson going to work on Splitter. I find it interesting that Splitter wears jersey number 21. About a minute in Splitter will be the one falling down when posted up by Anderson. I would much rather have Splitter, but if people were curious what how this guy looks, here it is. He could be another Scola for Houston.

Rockets have been comfortable of using garbage as their center, which has already become a tradition of this team through the so many years since 2002.
