So...B2B is straight??
Me neither.
So...B2B is straight??
Gay meaning ‘ sexual’ became established in the 1960s as the term preferred by sexual men to describe themselves. It is now the standard accepted term throughout the English-speaking world. As a result, the centuries-old other senses of gay meaning either ‘carefree’ or ‘bright and showy’ have more or less dropped out of natural use.
The Oxford Dictionary of English (2nd edition revised)
I just think it's funny how gay people get so offended about saying "that's gay". They act like straight people stole their word. However, they are hypocrites when they say that because they stole the word "gay" from straight people. Gay use to mean happy.
And if Hillary Duff told me to stop saying "that's gay", I would tell her "well, I will make a deal with you. You stop being a ty actress and finally star in a good movie that gets rave reviews and get nominated for an Oscar, Golden Globe, SAG, or something nice then I will stop saying that's gay. Until that happens, step off ".
Passive-aggressive gay-bashing, Chasing Amy, etc.
ha, idc what others think really if im making fun of a friend for some reason and the word "gay" comes out of my mouth oh well. Ive called friends gay for being y, stupid, materialistic, etc. Its a word I use in good spirit just messing around. I also use " ", in a similar way, it is what it is, im in no way phobic or have anything against sexuals--btw i also might use " " in the same context also.. As for the "jew" thing, yes I used to use that term online all the time when i played Vgames more----especially if someone took my kill, or was not being a team player, id laugh and use it. Words can be dangerous and hurtful-you have to make sure who your using them around, and what context your using them in. Im not going to be going to a football game and yelling at my friends "wow your a ", people should be smart enough to use them in the proper places so others don't misinterpret what is being said....actually wtf am i rambling on about, im being gay.
Wow, all of that was pretty gay.
Is there an echo, echo, echo in here, here, here??
lmao teh gays hijacked teh word "gay" and then get mad when it's hijacked back
We have been saying this since 2001. Words are what people use them as, not what liberal s want them to mean. And until another monosyllabic impact word replaces it, gay will continue to be one of the most versatile awesome words in everyday american language.
You can't act as though the word "gay" just magically became used to describe things that are stupid or generally undesirable in the last few years, as if someone decided randomly that it was a fun word to say. Whether or not you specifically or intentionally use the word as a slight to the sexual community or sexuality in general, that connection and that insult is very much a part of why "that's so gay" has become such a popular phrase. Gay has become synonymous with stupid only because sexuality has long been deemed worthy of ridicule.
Trying to suggest that this new use of "gay" as a universal/versatile insult is in no way connected to the condemnation of sexuality is as silly as suggesting that the phrase "###### rich" has nothing to do with black people. ###### really means an ignorant person, after all. It's just the butthurt black community that won't let it go.

Great post.
The word "gay" cannot be stolen for it doesn't belong to any particular group.
all you breeders are acting soooooo gay over this![]()
That, too.
Is there an echo, echo, echo in here, here, here??

Great points. However ###### never initially meant - Happy White Guy - and then robbed for the purpose of the black community to represent blacks as a whole. Then of course its race or ethnicity not preference.....Only to be slandered by the white man in regard to all things black. Not entirely a fair comparison. It was always a hateful term.
The more I think about it gay was likely adopted by the average joe to express things that are silly. Like your silly flamboyant gay people. Are they not silly? Therefore "silly" things became "gay". Which broadened to mean a lot of things over the years.
That's just far too narrow a point of view. And more ignorant of our history than I think you are.
For one thing, language can't be stolen. It can be adopted, or appropriated, or altered, but there is no such thing as owning a word. Yes, the gay community may have made a conscious choice to adopt the term several decades ago, but in 2009 that adopted meaning is every bit as valid a definition of the word as its original definition. They can't be separated. And to suggest otherwise is denying the function of language and/or its fluidity.
The real issue is the cyclical acceptance of certain forms/contexts of discrimination. Within this country, there has always been at least one group of people who has been deemed okay to make fun of or ridicule -- Native Americans, Blacks, Irish, Italians, the Japanese, the disabled, and many more over time. Currently, it's the poor, the addicted, fat people and gays who are the socially acceptable targets of our "humor." As soon as that changes, saying that something is "gay" will become as unpopular or taboo as a minstrel show.
You shared my view for your benefit then separated yourself from it when you didn't want the same rule of thumb to apply.
+1
If sexuals can adopt a word to express their way of life, why can't I adopt that same word and use it as a universal meaning? Why do sexuals get to choose the definition of the word, but when I do I'm a phobe or just making fun?
Wouldnt' the word "######" be the same as " got?" I could see where people's feelings would get hurt over the word got, especially when I've never seen gay people go around calling each other "my got." got is more derragatory than the word gay, IMO.
Yeah and I rarely use the word got. I admit I have a strange set of principles. is born and breed from hate. It, like ######, was always used and based in hate and discrimination. Gay on the other hand I feel can be used more universally because it wasn't born out of or used predominantly from hate.
actually got was originally "a bundle of sticks" Lord know what happened to that word
Yeah. I told the kids that where I work, and so they started calling each other a bundle of sticks so they wouldn't get into trouble for saying " got." Whoops.![]()
