State which team you think will have the best defense in the ncaa this year, as well as a conference of your choosing.

I say Texas is by far and away the best defense in the Big12, period, and ends up top 5 ncaa in sacks, hurries, rush yards, TDs, except for pass yardage, they end up top 20.

All I knows is, that secondary full of soph's that had to start last year as freshmen is gonna be the best in the country for the next 3 years. Especially their junior and senior years. And especially with Blake Gideon holding it down for the white folk

    best defense is too subjective
texas will be up there though, they led the nation in sacks but need to get more ints and forced fumbles

you dont often have two legit 6-2 corners with NFL ability, another play making safety earl thomas who plays like michael griffin, huff and geiggar combined, a Dline with kindle and houston, and then muckleroy led the team in tackles by like 150 last year and nobody really talks about the dude

plus either sam acho or eddie jones and okafor off the bench, 5 stars deon beasley and curtis brown, off the ing bench

    In muchamps 2nd year?

hes gonna be like the terminator who has to save young colt from the t1000

No defense in the B12 will have a statistically good defense. If you subjectively say 'good' you cannot back that up quantifiably. Last year, UT was #51 in total defense. They were, in fact, the best defense in the B12. uo was #68, CU #78, ttek #79, BU # 85, KU #89. Those statistically were the top half of B12 defenses. There are only 119 ranked.

Its just a sign of the times that anyone playing in the best offensive conference with two of the best three QBs in the nation, the two best sets of offensive triplets in the nation, the most productive plug-and-play QB system in the nation, all that isn't going to be condusive to a 'good' defensive ranking.

High powered offenses don't lead to good defensive numbers. uo, for example, the highest scoring offense in NCAA history, gave up the 3rd highest number of plays in all of college football (behind Mizzou and Ore). Even if a team is only getting 9 yards every series, you give them 50% more series and common sense tells you they are going to pile on some extra yards. Many SEC teams had statistically great defenses but we know that the SEC was anemic on offense as a whole last year, as well.

Therefore, HIGHLY unlikely that UT, while they might have a the best defense in the B12, will have any shot of achieving a top 5 defensive ranking while having to play uo, ttek, OSU, Mizzou (UT was 109 of 119 in passing D last year).

Regardless telling people to rank defensines in the B12 in general is sort of silly; just ask them if they think UT or uo will be better on D.

This is a tough one. In the Big 12 it'll certainly be either Texas or OU.I like Muschamp better than Venables for obvious reasons, but I'll give the edge to OU because they have more returning starters and a more solid secondary.

SEC it's going to be Fla or Bama. Respectively,They have 11(!) and 9 returning starters. I'll take Bama though on account that they'll score much less and therefore grind more clock. Georgia and Auburn will be very good however. Auburn ranked 14th in scoring D nationally last year with a 5-7 record. They both return 8.

In the Pac-10 I'll take Arizona.
Big-10 I'll take Penn St.(mostly due to the easy schedule)
Big East will be West Virginia
    ACC I like Clemson

Overall?? I'll go with Clemson in a surprise pick

I base all these picks on where I think their total defensive ranking will be come years end.

that seems to a general myth

by seasons end i think it will be clear texas has the better secondary

if anything give to nod to OU for having better LBs, or 2 returning 1,000 yard rushers, the greatest tight end to ever play the game, not returning starters and secondary

I'll listen to the fact that OU has the better running game, but in the pass happy Big-12, the secondary will have a greater impact in the big picture.

Dude, "greatest tight end to ever play the game"?! Slow down there cowboy. How about Mike Ditka and Ozzie Newsome??? You're a funny guy.

He's the best in the nation, I won't deny it. I just won't go throwing around absolutes like that before he's played his last year of ball. Here's a couple more recent ones for ya. Kellen Winslow and Vernon Davis. Greshams definitely not faster than Davis(4.4) and might not be stronger. He's had his share of drops though, like the 2 potential TDs against UTC last year. No more than any other top TE however. He should be top 10 coming out in the draft for sure.Whoever gets him will be lucky.

The big 10 is now worse than the Big East. Your conference has fallen farther and faster than one one of your fat, slow lineman thrown off the Golden Gate bridge. Maybe you should try making fun of the Mid-American Conference instead, they are apparently the only teams you guys can beat anymore.

Other than USC, Arizona will have the best defense in the Pac-10. All 11 starters from what was an above average Pac-10 defense last year return. Still though replacing Tuitama's good play last year is gonna be the biggest challenge since he was the 2nd best QB in the conference.

Gresham is a nice TE but not 'the best ever' of anything. He's a very nice catcher but is lacking in blocking ability. There have been better TE receivers and much better TE blockers. Shockey and Winslow Jr were both amazing college TEs, as were Dallas Clark and Heath Miller.
