Nope. Someplace a little more foreign. But it occurred to me culture shock can occur anyplace. When I used to visit Laramie, I thought everyone there had the manners of barnyard animals. People from up north say Southerners seem phony when they come to visit (what with our smiling and saying thank you and all). I should confess that my brother is really somewhat cranky and rude, himself, so there's probably a little Ugly American syndrome involved.Gee Summers, that letter really sounds familiar to me, as if I might have written something similar a few years back. I'm gonna take a guess your brother is on the east coast? DC area possibly?
