People on cable news like Glenn Beck, Rachel Maddow, and Bill-o... Do you consider these people journalists at all or just commentators who talk and don't do any real in-depth research for themselves?

Commentators, not journalists. But I don't discount the idea that Maddow/Olberrman read a decent amount of material and try to connect the dots. Beck and Bill-O just act outraged to appeal to their target demographic.
Commentators, but O'Reilly is the least partisan of the ones you named. He really likes Obama and has even written a book him.
Include the non-cable, "major news" outlets as well.

Haven't seen much "journalism" anywhere these days. But Mostly don't see it on the major news channels, like ABC, CBC, NBC. Where there's any "journalism" at all, it's coming from the web and cable.
People say Keith is a bag but I think it is awfully nice of him to devote every one of his shows to Bill O'Reilly. I watched his show about 3 times this week and every time he talks mostly of O'Reilly or Beck.
Nice guy.
News is gathered from journalists...then networks report and place their own spin as to why it happened.

As soon as everyone sees that their favorite cable news commentator / News talk host is completely full of the better off for everyone. The problem lies in the fact that many many people take what these heads say as gospel and don't look to find out for themselves.
A lot of people called Bush a racist, remember those black people that had little to eat, shat without bathrooms, and died in corners of Superdome while waiting for relief assistance? Then, part of the "rebuilding" process involved allowing Katrina victims to stay in toxic FEMA trailers. I wouldn't call Bush a racist, but I can see how it's a little odd for mostly black people to get such ty treatment when they are already in a ty situation. What, you think it would have happened to Sen. Kennedy's cons uents? I somehow doubt that.
Also, news commentators are neccessary for cable news ratings. If they just reported the news it would get boring real fast and college kids/old foggies wouldn't tune in and have kneejerk responses that keep them coming back for more. If ya'll are really tired of the divisiveness and fact plucking they ALL do, maybe you should ask cabe news networks to news shows from around the world instead of feeding us OUR talking points. Hm?
Yeah, they all have their own personal ox to gore, however these people have huge followings because of the transparent slant and complicity the major networks have. what they think of the news of the day, but at least they are getting news out that the state run media would never allow, just look at how the major networks won't air adds that don't peddle the DNC grab for state run health care.
Since the george Soros nut jobs have co opted the DNC there is a very real threat that they will attempt to do what Chavez did in Venezuela to silence dissent....in some ways I look forward to it .
I ignore some of these commentators rants, but avidly listen to the stories they expose.The other thing, Obama must shut down conservative news and commentators, because they have become a tool to organize people into political activisim,something the Soros crowd cannot allow, they can only live in darkness and the people cannot be allowed to know what's going on.
Illegal aliens used spainish radio stations as a tool to organize rallies.That's fine for the DNC, but Citizens must not be allowed freedom of information.

Your use of catch phrases such as "state run media" and throwing around the hugely overused/misused term "fascism" just undercuts your supposed argument and s on any credibility you though your post had.

Yep, Journalism is pretty much dead.
What are journalist suppose to do? They find a story and report what they see and find. They investigate others who might be associated to the story. Then that which is gathered is reported live and sent to the networks...AP.
Networks review the story and compile beliefs and investigate even more...that's when "commentators" come along and place their spin to the story.
We watch and assess opinion based on the spin. If you are of Liberal beleifs...you believe the Liberal media...same goes for the Conservative media.

Trillions are spent but nobody knows where they went and it's called transperancy in goverment.
