Edmunds.com has great info on getting the best price for a new vehicle. It will let you build the vehicle you want and let you know what others are paying for that specific vehicle in your area. I would also recommend picking up a copy of the Consumer Reports Auto Guide. It is a great resource when looking at reliability and overall bang for your buck. Get online and check dealerships outside your general area too. Even if you have to drive a couple of hundred miles to pick up your vehicle, it's well worth it...especially if you are going to save a couple thousand bucks.

I have found that the best way to get a vehicle that is new is getting one that is almost new. For example...I just bought my 2009 Pontiac Vibe GT a couple of months ago. The dealerships in my area were asking 21-23K for it brand new. I went to Autotrader.com and did a used car search for the same car within a 200 mile radius. I found a car in Houston that had only 13k miles on it and had been used by a rental car agency. It only had a few cosmetic scratches and the interior was mint. I wound up paying $15,900...and my credit union that I financed it through said it blue booked at 21K. I didn't even need gap insurance because I would actually make money if I wrecked it. I had to drive three hours to get it, but saving 5k made it an easy decision.

    In 06 I bought

    2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser
    MSRP $33,890
    paid $31,000

Was the worst deal I have ever been involved in, but I wanted the vehicle. Payment was lower due to trade-in. Paid $26,000 after trade.

Yeah, I guess I don't understand the question. If you're buying new, shop around (including Houston and Austin). If you're buying used, get a Kelly Blue Book.

Just go to www.kbb.com and www.edmunds.com. You can look up the vehicle you want to buy and get both the msrp and dealer invoice prices. If you're trading in a vehicle you can also get a value for that. Just print all that stuff out and take it with you when you're ready to get down to business and buy.

Those sites are good and are accurate with a 3500.00 discount from msrp. But I believe you can get a whole lot more off. When the dealerships arn't meeting their numbers like they were this time last year they were giving anywhere from 7 to 10G's off the msrp. I shoulda taken a deal on a new king ranch last year. I was gonna pay 500.00 a month for 6 years with nothing down and I balked. That woulda been a steal imo. Now days, they are listed at 42-45K and they will come down about 5 or 6 grand from that. Just a year differnce. thats why im asking what people are paying now days.

Personal opinion, but it's been my experience that you're better off starting with invoice and working up from that number as opposed to starting with MSRP and negotiating down.

In Feb, bought a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X MR. Don't remember how much we knocked off the MRSP, but I know it's was 0% financing, so no interest in our payments at all.

I paid $600.00 2 years ago. I've replaced the brakes, front axle, coolant reservoir, idler pulley, fuel pump, fuel filter, front bumper, grill, and front right quarter panel for about $400.00 and drive it everyday.

If you want to save a lot of money buy slightly used...Last car I bought was a year ago July...oil had hit $140 a barrel and everyone was panicking and trading in their full size SUV's for overpriced hybrids. I bought a hard loaded 2006 Eddie Bauer Expedition with 26K miles (still in warranty) for $15,000. The original sticker was $47,000.

Have you played with it on three wheels yet?

I'll bet they are a blast. I understand you can reprogram the chip and get about 450 HP. Use a larger intercoller, change the turbo, and a few other things and get almost 700 HP. Awesome for a 2 liter engine.

Anyway, the last new car I bought was a 2000 Z28. Sticker was $28,xxx and I paid $25,800. $19,000 down payment to finance enough to reestablish credit. Awesome car, but in many ways, the EVO is better. Your EVO was also a $36,000+ car if I remember right.

Nice think about the LS1 engine in the Z28/Trans Am/Corvette/Holden is it is capable of being turbocharged to 1200 HP if someone wanted to.

No, but I'm sure my husband has! Eventually, we're going to chip it. It's weird how it shifts, though. You don't feel the the gears shifting at all. The MR comes with the paddle shifters and if you put it in Super Sport, the engine revs pretty high. Normally, I hate big ass spoilers, but it works with this car. My only complaint is that I wish it had memory seats and I'm not crazy about the bluetooth because it only comes out of the right speaker and you have to turn up the volume pretty loudly to hear someone. Then when you hang up, the stereo is blasting. And if you're in the backseat, you can't hear a damn thing because of the subwoofer in the trunk!

I think it was around $42K sticker. The GSR is a little cheaper and is a manual.

paying on about $29,000 w/ 0% interest for 2 years. At that point I might refinance if I cant pay it off by then.

I find myself sneaking away from the office for a chance to drive it for 10 minutes. sometimes multiple times a day. I take the long way home on purpose.
