$60.00 at Costco for an 18 year old bottle. Worth it?
Depends. I'm crazy about scotch. For me it is, and $60 is a good price for 18 yo scotch.

I can't always afford what I like, so I find myself drinking more aged rum these days.

Scotch or beer...and, I prefer scotch. But, you can't drink it like beer without going broke...or, needing a liver transplant.

Haven't had many other spirits since college days. Tequila slammers cured me of that.

    A rum? I can't read the label.

I like blended scotches too, and Pinch is damn good IMO. Single malts can take some getting used to. What makes them distinctive may not be appealing to everybody.

Sorry. It's rum, even though it says VSOP. The French gave it an AOC. Rhum Clement. For about $30, it's as good as cognacs costing twice as much.

Which is why I'm reluctant to s out the bucks for one.

I like Pinch and it's very smooth...I can't imagine, dollar for dollar, a smoother, more flavorful scotch being worth the money. But, again, I've never had a $30 glass of scotch.

I used to drink it neat, until I was told the Scots use a small amount of water, to release the aroma. Now I drink it both ways.

    On the rocks?

    Never.

Treat yourself some time. It's only money, and you only live once.

And I weaned myself off the water years ago. Now, I'm going to have read up on your information and decide if it's worth a try, again.

And, I lied. I like wine too. Business associate got me hooked on Pinot Noir...but, when he's not in town buying, I have to settle for the St. Genevieve brand (not too bad) or, I experiment with the less than $20 crowd at Randall's.

It's not unthinkable. Political differences shouldn't interfere with the enjoyment of good scotch.

There are no political differences when the glass is full.

There are good values at the supermarket, but if you really like wine, you should go to a wine shop. There'll be more good choices at your price point. Just tell em what you like and what you'd like to spend. Good wine doesn't have to cost a lot of money.
