There was a big stink made last week over a quarter-century-old Cris Collinsworth interview. In the video the former Bengals wide receiver is interviewed about his life as a bachelor in the NFL.
Naturally, Cris made some, ahem, awkward remarks about the types of ladies that he preferred to date, which you can read after the jump.
Though the NFL has rushed to get all copies of the video removed, here's what Collinsworth said (via With Leather):
I'm not gonna deny it, I walk around with hundred dollar bills hanging out of my pocket...I like girls that aren't too bright because you can trick 'em a little bit...high school girls love me. Fourteen to eighteen, I'm a big star with them. As soon as they mature, after they turn 18 years old, they start to figure it out.Deadspin subsequently retrieved an apology from the announcer, reprinted here:
As a family man I am extremely embarrassed by an interview I did when I was in my early twenties about dating. My comments were insulting, immature, and foolishly intended as a joke. They do not reflect how I lived my life then or now.Now there's really no sense in trying to judge what Collinsworth said in the 1980s, although you have to appreciate the irony that one of America's best NFL announcers was, at one time, stupid enough to say these words in front of a camera.
I was asked to do something humorous about dating, and it has been a major embarrassment to me since the day I said it.
I apologize to anyone who has ever had the misfortune to see it now or a quarter-century ago.
Sincerely
Cris Collinsworth
No, what I find amazing about this is that we never saw this freaking thing until LAST WEEK. I find this amazing because it's nearly impossible in the YouTube era for any interview to not be widely distributed across the web (and that includes approximately 5,342 sports blogs) within 24 hours of its airing.
But the lesson that Collinsworth learned from this past week applies to today's standards anyway -- whenever there is a camera in your face, you'll be held responsible for anything you say. Whether it's a Hitler reference, a ludicrous and racist rant about a referee's call, or simply selling pork outside a football stadium, people are listening and they will hold you accountable.
And, yeah, sometimes it sucks that our lives are so tied to technology but you know what? Welcome to the rest of your life, everyone.

I'm confused. Is something being discussed here?
Im shared an interesting comment about a prominent NFL analyst and commenter, in the NFL forum.
What's your problem?
Oh wait! I forgot you put me on ignore list because you got all sad and butthurt after I said the texans were just not that good this season.
Grow a in' pair of balls...if your capable. However, something tells me you're probably not.
I don't doubt one bit that he actually did this. C'mon man, he probably had some coke in his pocket next to the benjis. Everything about Collinsworth screams,"reformed bag".
I can't fault the man for his comments.
It was a different time back in the early '80's.
No internet, if you had cable you were upper class, having a camera in your face didn't mean it was going to be plastered across the face of the planet within 30 minutes, etc....
If i was an NFL star WR........ i'd have taken advantage of EVERY benefit of being that guy too.
Obviously he has to apologize at this point.
well son in that case them maybe you too ...

Me/ Apologize? HmmmNo.![]()
All a girl has to tell you is she's 18 and she can look it and you never even know.
He is one of the best announcers out there, and this story has no real purpose.
still could have hit that when she turned 18
And here I thought Collinsworth was a all these years. He obviously had his fair share of Cincinatti pussy of all ages back in the day.
Hey it was the 80s.
14 years old back then is like 10 years old now.
Oh wait, that's a bad thing then...
This.
On top of it, when the was this interview!?!?
WTF is he apologizing for something 20 or more years ago!?
Collinsworth is annoying. He is really not that good as a color commentator. He was better on Inside the NFL and on pregame shows. Blows as an color commentator.
But this story is pretty funny. We have said things about the opposite sex we don't want people outside of our friends to hear, lol.
Anybody catch the part where he said it was a joke? , when I read it, I thought to myself, "This guy is obviously joking and being sarcastic. He's making fun of himself saying all he can get is girls 14-18 yrs old because of how lame he is."
It is one thing to deal with Collinsworth when I play Madden. It is tough to listen to him during SNF. I miss Madden.![]()
I liked Madden too. but it was time for Madden to hang it up.
Collinsworth IMO is a VERY VERY good color guy and not just explains the game well, explains it well from ALOT of positions.
