Spurs after Greek center
By Mark Miller
Some NBA players are accepting bigger bucks to go play in Europe. Some European players are accepting the challenge of playing in the NBA.
The San Antonio Spurs appear to have one of the latter about to come onboard, according to Interbasket. The rumor is that San Antonio has offered a four-year deal to Greek 7', 280-pound center Ioannis Bourousis.
Bourousis averaged 12.5 points and 7.4 rebounds in 22 games with Olympiakos Piraeus recently. He also was named MVP of the 2009 Greek All-Star Game.
See -- Americans is stupid and don't understand basketball and lying racist against Greek person!!!
could there be something to this??
i hope so he's a really good player.
The "about to come onboard" part is what baffles me. I thought this dude already signed on the dotted line with Olympiacos Piraeus a couple of months back. Weird...unless this is just a magnificent trolling effort.

Mark Miller should know better. As has been said, he signed with Olympiakos and the link Mark uses at Interbasket is this http://www.interbasket.net/news/2009...-to-nba-spurs/
Note the 06/06/09 date in the url![]()
I wish I could email this guy for being such a tool. Are there any credible reporters anymore?
I'm sure Interbasket wouldn't have posted an article from 3 months ago so it would appear that Duncan2177 started this mess all by himself.![]()
Nicely done. Spot on. What other impressions can you do? Elvis?

lmao...does yahoo browse Spurstalk? The Interbasket file is also obviously old because it says Darko Milicic is in Memphis...![]()
What?!!!?? No more KBP? He was the comic relief in here. I clicked every thread that was Euroball to laugh at his posts.

Recent reports say that Greek center Ioannis Bourousis has been offered a four-year contract with the San Antonio Spurs.
It comes as no surprise as the 7-0, 280lbs center has been making waves as of late. Most recently Ioannis averaged 12.5 points and 7.4 rebounds in 22 games with his Euroleague club Olympiakos Piraeus. The hulking center made his first All-Euroleague team and was named MVP of the 2009 Greek all-star game.
And before the ULEB, Bourousis played well in the 2008 Summer Olympics for the Greek National Team. In six Olympic games with as, Boroussis averaged 11.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.0 steal filling in for Lazaros Papadopolous and underachieving Sofoklis Schortsianitis.
Apparently it’s just not the Spurs that is after the 25-year old pivot, Gazzetta.gr is also saying that both the Memphis Grizzlies and Cleveland Cavs are interested in Bourousis.
If the Memphis and Cleveland rumors have any truth, Bourousis will have to compete with international centers in both situations. In Cleveland, he’ll battle with Zydrunas Ilgauskas of Lithuania and with Anderson Varejao of Brazil.
In Memphis, he would be a battle of four international centers vying for a roster spot come the 2009-2010 season. Including Bourousis, there is Marc Gasol (Spain), Darko Milicic (Serbia), and Hamed Haddadi (Iran).
Edit: We should note that this is a rumor and we are aware that reports like this can be untrustworthy, especially coming from the Greek press. In the past, representatives have used reports of NBA contracts as a leverage in negotiation with their Euroleague clubs.
I know. I miss him already.![]()

A Note on These Bourousis Rumors
Yahoo!, Sports Illustrated, and HoopsHype are reporting that the Spurs may have offered Olympiakos’ Ioannis Bourousis a four-year deal. Their reports all cite an Interbasket article where not only San Antonio but also Cleveland and Memphis are listed as potential suitors. Some of our commenters have begun picking up on the rumors as well.
So why exactly have Tim and I chosen not to comment on this most recent round of Bourousis speculation?
Because, if you look closely at the Interbasket article linked above, you’ll notice that it was not published recently but on June 6th, right around the time that we were covering the same issue extensively. This is not a new set of Bourousis rumors. It is the original rumor, which was firmly put to rest when Bourousis resigned with Olympiakos, being rehashed.
During the summer we covered the Bourousis speculation from several angles. In May we identified him as a potential target. In June, we discussed not only the financial details of a potential signing but also the hidden value of targeting a player like Bourousis. And we concluded our coverage when Bourousis chose to stay in Greece. Feel free to look back at some of our reporting if you have the time.
^ LIES! American propaganda Jew s . This guy is racist against all Greeks. Bourousis tell me that he always want to play with Spurs. It is dream come true. Pop tell him that he start for the Spurs this season.
Ignorant NBA fans know nothing about Greeks. I talk to all Greek players personally.
Die racist s !
Good effort, I give you an 8.7![]()
I would go back and read some of his posts so I can get better, but they're deleted.

WTF
ST can be scary sometimes. A poster starts a thread with an old article and Yahoo, Sports Illustrated and HoopsHype have taken it as fact?
Wow.
In Google news, the article posted in the first post appeared as written on Sept 15 :
http://news.google.com/news/search?n...=all&scoring=n
I guess that's why he was posted on ST and why yahoo thinks it's a new rumor.
