I actually went to Retama Park back in 1999, had a great time except that the Rangers were being taken apart by the Yankees that day.

Funniest part of the day was watching the quarter horses - in Oz, we only race thoroughbreds, so watching ponies gallop up the straight was hilarious!

Never ever go on 50 cent day. That place is a zoo and the animals are on the loose. I had this one freak,non speaking English drunk re follow my 5 YEAR old daughter checking her out like she was some piece of meat. I moved her far from that freak. Hour or two later this guy followed us out the place. This confirmed this perverts intent. I told him to get the away. He stagered off in another direction. In fact noone should ever go that park. Bunch of drunk ass perverts roam the tracks.

Agreed. The horses aren't the only animals there. 80% of the guys that go become or just are drunken pigs.
