...and I'm from Oregon, where there is no sales tax. I'm going to Colorado, where there is sales tax. As an Oregon resident, aren't I exempt from paying Colorado sales tax?

Holy crap, have you never left the state, ever? If you don't want to pay sales tax on vacation then go to Montana, but everywhere else I know of has sales tax in place. And yes, you have to pay it.

Not a bad idea. Montana looks like an amazing place to go, especially with Glacier National Park there.

Montana is beautiful. Luckily, I take a drive through part of the state to visit my wife's family.

Guess what, you're gonna have to pump your own gas, too. Poor baby.

I'm going back the first chance I get. I drove Going-to-the-Sun Road through Glacier the day after it opened this summer, and it was incredible. It just doesn't compare to Yellowstone, they're too different, but both amazing. Some incentive to go:

Some time if you're out in Cali you gotta drive the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway and Tioga Pass Road through high Sierra section of Yosemite. I promise I'll hit that road in Glacier the next few years (as most of those glaciers there don't have a lot of time left )

I don't remember the name of it, but it was just east of the Logan Pass Visitor Center. The most famous falls in the park is Bird Woman Falls, which is like almost 500 feet, but that's across the road from the Weeping Wall which is west of Logan.

Yosemite has been on my list for a while - I'm really looking forward to getting out there one day, and I'll definitely keep that drive in mind when I do. And yeah, Jackson Glacier is pretty much the only one you can see from the road anymore - you have to hike out to all of the others. Less than half the glaciers that were in the park when it was "discovered" in the 19th century are still there.

Sucks. There's only one significant glacier left in Yosemite, Lyell Glacier, and look how much smaller it is now than early in the 20th century:

Uh-oh, not like I've never done that. And, yes, I have been out of the state of Oregon countless times. I've been to nearly every state in the U.S. Just never thought about it until now. Not like it's a big deal, just something that crossed my mind.

And, by the way, when I buy something in Washington, if I flash my Oregon Driver's License, they usually don't tack on the sales tax.
