Spain is in a tier of their own.

Rough loss for Slovenia. Lorbek had an amazing tournament, but they needed Smodis and another decent guard today.

Greece got lucky with that last second made shot by DeColo and getting Turkey playing their worse game of the tournament. I didn't have very high expectations for them, but they still left me unimpressed.

Serbia will be downright scary in a few years. I thought they were too inexperienced to make such a deep run this year, but they proved me wrong. With all their ball-handling guards and point-forwards and the ability to crash the glass, they can compete with Spain.

good grief, Greece beats Turkey 8 out of 10 times.

DeCole is an awesome player, you made it sound like he made an impossible shot.

In this tournament, Turkey was a stronger team than Greece.

Well, it was a difficult shot, but my point was that the only reason Greece made the semis was because with that shot they didn't face Spain in the quarters.

My friend, noone said that this GNT could win Spain...
The only reason that's probably true is because our favorite Comcast-boy's posts were deleted.

How did the game against France go?

    waiting for excuses......

oh wait...was France a better team than Greece too?

    Hum?

I said France got lucky to beat Greece at the buzzer? No I did not. You clearly have reading comprehension problems.

I only said Greece was lucky enough to avoid playing Spain in the quarters. If you disagree, I don't know what to say to you.

So according to you, France was better than Greece --he deserved to win that game, but Greece got lucky........ that lost?!!!

So Greece was lucky that lost to a better team.

It is expected to lost to a better team and is expected that better team to finish 1st in the group. How is that lucky?!

Your logic fails... you just bitter we kept Turkey out of the final4.

You claim that Turkey is better than Greece (or stronger as you say), but they lost to France and Russia. A medal >>> 8th.

    Good grief...

Spain is already dominating. 20 pts difference in the second quarter, the Serbian defense can't do anything to contain them!

They are rested because they also dominated their semifinal. If Serbia could have done the same thing they also would be rested.

Most importantly though, lack of rest is not supposed to show in the first quarter but later on.

By European standards this Spanish team is as good as it gets. Ever since 2006 they have been on a great run, and the development of two quality guards like Rubio but especially Rudy, has given them the missing piece to Gasol. I hope they give the US a run for their money next year in Turkey, given that Americans usually don't rate the WC as high as the Olympics.

Spain was wwaaay above all other teams once Pau Gasol returned at full speed. Serbia, France, Slovenia and Greece were very close ... but in the second pack.

Slovenia, Serbia, Greece and Turkey were almost equal.
France was at least equal with them.
    Spain was the best team.

Talent-wise maybe yes, but they finished 0-4. Greece, France, Slovenia and Serbia all won games "when it mattered" Turkey didn't.

They had the talent, but couldn't pull it off. Actually they haven't done much since ever. I wouldn't put them in the same group as Greece, France, Slovenia and Serbia.

Turkey lost in overtime to Greece by two points. After that any of the games they played didn't matter at all for them.

Very true, but don't you think they need to do better than 8th before we consider them in the Elite of Europe?

Turkey lost to Greece, Russia beat them, why are not also in the Elite? Your standards are too low.

Many teams see the first two rounds, as a mini training camp and don't care that much about the Wins. Turkey took advantage of that and beat some teams they weren't supposed to beat.

I don't see how playing well only in the first rounds (where wins don't matter that much anyways) makes them Elite team.

I agree, they are not an elite team yet. They will be next year when they host the world championships.

The games that didn't matter to Turkey were the ones after the quarter-finals, because they were already qualified for the WC.

You're amazingly dense. Greece was lucky that they lost to France because otherwise they'd have been destroyed by Spain in the quarters-finals. What's so difficult to understand about this?

I don't care about Turkey, I'm not Turkish. You should have seen the games to see that the difference between Turkey, Greece and all the other teams that made the knock-out stage except Spain was basically non-existent. If you think that Greece is better because they won the medal, just think that the only reason they won the medal was because DeColo made that shot. Unless you're dense enough to believe that Greece could have beaten Spain.
