I don't need to format my computers and haven't in a couple of years, thanks.
btw, fanboy has always been a funny word to me just like sellout has been...
if i'm a fanboy then i'm a fanboy. so be it!
i like my mac, that's true, but just like anything it has it's ups and downs but damn when compared to what i used to have to put up with in regard to my winOS machines, my mac is 8000000000000000 times better and less of a headache to me.
you on the other hand format what??? monthly CH? explain to me how that's even worth it.
I don't need to format my computers and haven't in a couple of years, thanks.
^ Mr. Format!
My purchase was entirely based on common sense. Every single studio I've been to have used macs. Which means anyone who wants their worked on needs to be in the same format for ease of use. It really was a no brainer for me.
I have absolutely no problem with your switch, I was just giving you grief. You're definitely making the right decision for your career.
I purchased this exact item today. I've got everything hooked up. HD is a toshiba mk8034gsx. There are three lights on it, ide/busy, usb, and sata. The only one that comes on is the usb light and the HD doesn't seem to be recognized or found. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong, if anything? This thing didn't come with any diagrams on how to set up but I'm pretty sure I've got it set up right. Any help would be appreciated.
It your hard drive uses IDE (PATA), you might want to play around with the jumper settings (ie., setting master/slave).
I read some stuff mentioning that, but that is another thing I can't find any diagrams for. I asked the guy that today at Fry's and he said since its a laptop HD it shouldn't be a problem. I've looked at this HD and can't see anywhere I could even change anything.

Is that your HD? 80GB?
Lower left hand corner of the screen looks like a black jumper on a black surface. Kind of hard to spot. Arrow should help.
Yeah, that is it.....I don't know what to do with it.
Do you hear the hard drive platters spin?
Hmmm, why doesn't koriwhat help you?
Oh, that's right. He's just here to brag about Apple instead of actually doing something positive.
Typical Apple fanboy.
^ Dude, if he went out and bought a overpriced box because he was getting spyware and enlargement pop ups.......u think he has any tech advice?
ah i can feel the love in here.
bunch of chumps with big ol' mouths acting like fools.
whatup mr. format & oh who gives a !
since CryBaby wants me to answer your OP i suppose i can.
i suppose if your HD on the laptop isn't gone you could physically take it out of your machine and put it into an external case and load all your files onto your mac.
i'm not sure if you can just transfer your itunes library over as i don't use itunes. as for pics/videos all should be fine with proper codecs.
i don't dual boot because i don't want anything to par ion my drive and run windows on my mac. if you dual boot, yes you can use your old apps on your windows par ion on your mac if you still have all the install files.
i don't own an iphone so i can't help you out with that at all and once again i don't use itunes.
Gotcha!
btw, i went out and bought an overpriced box because i have yet to have to deal with the bs i had to deal with for the past 13-15 yrs in the pc world. when linux starts supporting the apps i use daily then i will custom build a pc again and just run that OS but until then cei la vie to your ty winOS.
you got nothing... not even huevos.
