You're obviously not a long time fan or you'd recognize that if you put most rosters on a balance scale against the Spurs, the Spurs side would go up, being shorter on talent. We rarely compete on talent top to bottom. What gives the Spurs the edge IS THAT SYSTEM. THE SYSTEM is what allows them to keep only 4 players for a period of 8 years and win three les by plugging in value players around them. We don't have a billionaire owner, and we're not a large market. SA actually competes with two systems: the basketball system, and the front office system. The basketball system is based on teamwork, defense, and a motion offense. The front office system is based on picking up smart players with character who can shoot the 3 pointer and defend for reasonable prices. The Spurs rarely give full MLE deals anymore. They sign fractional MLE deals for 2-3 years. Because of that, it's been ages since they were stuck with a bad contract.

Well each year is different, when Timmy, Manu and Tony were all young and Bruce (Bowen) was younger and all that we just looked for pieces every year.

huh?..

the "system" doesn't have anything to do with the minutes of Finley, Bonner, and Hill..those were coaching decisions..

the system is still the best in the NBA, at worst top 3..the system got us the 5th ranked defense in the NBA, despite starting 4 out of 5 average or below average defenders next to Duncan..it got us HCA..it's impossible to win when your best player is playing on 1 knee, and the other part of the big 3 isn't even playing..

the system will remain the same, except there will be tweaks to add a big 4..the options will be different this season, because we've heavily upgraded in talent..
