Once again, RB Marion Barber (quad) is dressed out and taking part in individual drills here at Valley Ranch.

The media only sees a brief portion of practice and some stretching each day, and Wade Phillips didn't exactly provide a clear picture of Barber's participation on Wednesday.

The Cowboys are obligated to release an injury report on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The starting back says he expects to play against Carolina, but my guess is he'll be listed as questionable on Saturday's final report. We'll see.

I wouldn't mind letting him sit out one game. Choice and Jones can get the job done on Monday, that way the Cowboys don't risk losing Barber for longer. Unless the injury really is nothing, then I'd be ok with Barber playing.

The Panthers are worst in the NFL in giveaways, with 9. Even with every other team having played an extra game, there is no team that has more than the Panthers' 9 giveaways. The Cowboys are the only team in the NFL without a single takeaway.

I guess something has to give, right?

Still not sure. He's questionable. He was limited in Sat. and Sun. practices. They're leaning towards resting him, despite him saying he wants to play. He might get a few touches, but don't expect a lot of them.

So is Barber going to start?

From the sound of things, it doesn’t appear that Marion Barber will suit up and play Monday night against the Panthers.
Do we know that as a fact? Not yet. Could it change? Of course. But there are a handful of reasons that suggest Barber won’t play tonight.
For starters, he had limited participation in all three days of practice this week. Then, head coach Wade Phillips said Saturday that if he wasn’t close to 100 percent, then he didn’t the point in running him out there.
One Cowboys official in the hallway just now said he thought there was a 98 percent chance that Barber misses tonight’s game, for the simple reason that he’s not fully healthy and it’s the third game of the season.
We saw last year what a limited Barber could do – 15 yards on 13 carries – although it was a dislocated toe, a much different injury than a quad strain.
Still, this is why you draft two running backs last year. Felix Jones and Tashard Choice will have to carry the load tonight.
Then it again, that could change if Barber decides to don his Superman cape. But don’t hold your breath.

Felix Jones almost certainly would have notched the first 100-yard rushing game of his career if not for the strained knee he suffered in the third quarter.

Jones (eight carries, 94 yards) limped off the field following a 40-yard run that led to a Cowboys field goal. He put on a new knee brace and returned for two plays on the next series, then spent the rest of the game walking the sidelines.

Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips said Jones would be re-evaluated on Tuesday. Tashard Choice (18 carries, 82 yards, TD) finished the game as the primary running back.

Jones and Choice filled in for starter Marion Barber, who was deactivated because of a strained quad. Phillips said Barber was "close" to playing, but the team made a medical decision to rest him this week.

The Cowboys return to practice Wednesday.

Jones' knee injury concerns Jerry Jones

In the wake of the Dallas Cowboys' come-from-behind victory over Carolina, Jerry Jones said Tuesday that he is concerned about the severity of running back Felix Jones' knee injury.

The Cowboys owner said Jones was unable to loosen his left knee after suffering what the team has initially diagnosed as a knee strain that would be re-evaluated, indicating the likelihood the second-year pro will have an MRI.

Great to get the win and all, but questions remain.

Anthony Spencer was again invisible. He wasn't horrible like Bobby Carpenter, but he's just invisible. He's pretty good against the run though. But you have to like what you saw out of rookie OLB Victor Butler. 2 sacks and a forced fumble. Tackling is also a concern amongst the secondary. Ive heard Wade doesn't put the team through many practices with tackling drills so the only practice they get at it is in the games. However the team is pretty good against the run. After the Tampa game they really buckled down, shut down Brandon Jacobs, and did a great job on D. Williams.

But the biggest questions are no doubt the coaching. Horrible calls by Garrett calling 2 consecutive pass plays(same type of play) from the 1 freaking yard line when we were running all over them. Had to settle for a field goal. And I don't trust Wades type of D at all. All we do is play zone. Look what happens when we play man coverage...Neman picks off Jake. We need to play more man and press, otherwise when we don't get pressure on the QB, the WR are just going to find the soft spots int he zone, much like Eli did last week to us.

    Oh well...on to Denver.

Sources: Jones Out for Next Game:
IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys running back Felix Jones will miss Sunday's game at Denver with a sprained left knee, according to two sources.
    NFC East blog

Jones injured his knee at the end of a 40-yard run in the third quarter of Monday night's victory over Carolina. He had an MRI on Tuesday, which revealed the sprain. Doctors didn't discuss the possibility of surgery.
After this week, Jones will be reevaluated to see if he can play the following week at Kansas City. Cowboys officials believe Jones could be fully recovered after the bye week on Oct. 18.
As of now, Tashard Choice is the Cowboys' only healthy running back. Choice finished with 82 yards on 18 carries in the victory against the Panthers.
Marion Barber is close to returning from a strained left quad injury. Barber missed Monday's game with a injury.

Felix Jones sprained the posterior cruciate ligament Monday but the Cowboys aren't sure how much time he will miss.

"It could get well quickly," coach Wade Phillips said.

Typically PCL injuries take two weeks to get better which would keep Jones out through the bye week.

The panthers coaches only gave D Williams 11 carries and only 4 in the 2nd half even though he averaged about 6 yds a carry on those 11. The Cowboys shutting down the 3rd down conversion attempts in the 2nd half helped keep that number low though.
