This article leads to a poll that indicates most Americans are willing to pay more in taxes for healthcare reform. I am not saying our taxes will be risen, but I find it interesting that so many would support it if it were to happen. Personally I don't mind if my taxes are slightly raised for it, and I guess most of America wouldn't mind either.

Sixty-three percent of respondents told the pollster they were willing to pay more for reform, even though most were skeptical that the government would deliver.

Doesn't this sound a bit odd to you? Hmm, I'm willing to pay taxes even though I doubt you can deliver the goods. Who the are these 63%?

I think it's notable how they phrased the questions. I don't think they necessarily said "govt run".

    $5 more?
    $500 more?
    $5000 more?
    $10,000 more?

How can they be "for" it if the cost/benefit is not defined?

    Read the Huffington's source:

Americans willing to fund healthcare reform: poll

I expected to see the actually polling question, but they aren't included. It is a but more than what the Huffington Post implies.

Most Americans would pay higher taxes to fund healthcare reforms that provide the best quality of care
Well, that excludes any democrat plan.

Bingo. Come up with a proposal that raises someone's taxes $1, but ends up in their healthcare premiums being reduced by $2 and you've got a plan that people will support. But that's not what we have right now. Right now we have people agreeing that health care expenses are too high and a government plan that involves taxing a trillion dollars out of someone. Yet when anyone bothers to ask how spending a trillion dollars will make healthcare cheaper, presumably by some number greater than a trillion, all you get is silence.

    LOL...

    I forgot that angle.

Something like 47% of the people wouldn't pay any more in taxes if taxes were raised anyway. And they know it!

No it's not. It was a "poll" done by Reuters. You know, that tiny media corporation that isn't credible at all.

Here's a novel thought...have a special election so that the people of the nation could vote on this bill and see where this poll would stand.

That's not the problem with polling. The biggest problem is asking questions in a way to get the answer you want.

How about anyone who votes yes on a bill that requires funds pay extra in taxes, and those who vote no, don't?

Let people put their money where their mouth is.

Let people take the subsidized $13K their employer takes out of their salary to pay for health insurance, pocket it, AFTER tax, and then go into the market shopping for health insurance.

We'd get a STRONG PUBLIC OPTION in about 2 minutes (at least at the citizen level. What Congress would do has already been decided by their corporate johns).

    Yeps. From the Reuters article:

"There's skepticism that the government can deliver value," said Gary Pickens, chief research officer for Thomson Reuters' healthcare and science research business. Thomson Reuters is the parent company of global news agency Reuters.

"But underlying this is a fairly strong belief that people are en led to the best healthcare," Pickens added. "This is a value statement: that people are en led not just to good but to the best healthcare. And people are willing to pay for it."

    ---

So, let those who want to pay to pay. Those who don't want to pay shouldn't be forced to do it.
