Both. Back in the late '90s and early 00's I had to be a fan of the game, because the Cavaliers were so tough to watch. NBA basketball is my second-favorite sport after football.
I thought about this when I saw some fans talking about not wanting to pay for League Pass because they only cared about following their home team.
So which are you? I personally have loved basketball most of my life and have played it more than any other sport. Besides football it is the only other sport I can watch without a vested interest in either team as long at it is a good game.

Yeah I'll watch anything. Being a student I don't have money to get league pass, but if the Bobcats are playing the Raptors, I'll still watch.
team, basketball is boring to watch otherwise
I am both as well. It wasn't easy during the Antoine Walker days. I saw the Bulls and Rockets win their les in the 90's. Being a Celt fan wasn't easy during those years either.
Both. I prefer playing basketball over watching it. But if I watch it, it will definitely be my Spurs.
I'll watch all the various matchups. Even after losing to Orlando, I still watched the playoffs. I will bandwagon certain teams once mine is out and root for them the rest of the way. I rooted for Orlando/LA in the conference finals. I was fine with whoever won the finals.
Both. I love the Spurs and I watch all of their games, but I also watch as many games as I can from all teams.
I used to be a fan of the team, but in the last 4 or 5 years, I've started playing basketball on almost a daily basis. It's by far my favorite sport. If the Suns ceased to exist, I'd still follow the sport closely.
Both. I watch every Spurs game, and on nights they're not playing I'll watch the best match-up that's on. It's cliche, but I love this game.![]()
I'm a fan of the actual basketball. Big, round, orange synthetic dribbling in between my legs, palming it, spinning it, caressing it, then releasing it from my fingertips to watch it explode into the air and through the hole.
I love the basketball.
so you just like playing with balls.![]()
I can't watch an NBA game for more than 10 minutes if the Jazz aren't playing in it so I guess I'd go with the team.
That is just crazy to me. I don't really watch tv unless it is basketball. I try and watch as much as I can from every team. I even try and watch all of the preseason games from other teams and leagues overseas when I can get a stream, lol.
Other than that, I just watch some football and soccer.
Outside of the Spurs, I mostly tend to watch teams that look to be contending in the postseason - partly because I like the way most of those teams play, partly because they're compe ion and I wanna see how they would stack up against the Spurs.
So mostly the former, I guess.
Both. I'm a Spurs fan till the day I die but I love the game a whole bunch as well. Its the one sport I can watch no matter what team is playing, and the one sport I enjoy playing the most.![]()
Good thread. Stout postings.
I'll watch any game as long as the Cavs are playing in it
Both, unless the spurs are playing, then i'd rather kill myself
I'll watch NBA, D-League, College, Olympic, Euro and even the WNBA if there's no other pro basketball going on.
I like watching any West team but I generally do avoid watching sucky East teams.
Foremost, probably a fan of the team. I loved the team before I really understood everything about the game. They are the reason I came to learn and love basketball.
Still, as the years roll along, I find myself more and more willing to sit and watch two teams that I don't even care about duke it out. But usually, it's still all coming back to how they'd match up against the Spurs.
Me too. I have a bit of a hard time understanding how people can be die-hard for a team and not love the sport. I love every aspect of the game...from run and gun high scoring offenses to defensive juggernauts. The sheer ability and skill that resides within the players truly leaves me in awe at times.
As 228 said, it might be cliche...but I really do love this game.
Both but Team > Game.
