I hope this kinder and gentler Artest doesn't make it onto the court.
Artest's best playing attribute is probably that "You don't want to F* with me" edge he brings on the court.
Artest: Stephen Jackson Is No Me
SportingNews
It's funny, in addition to Ron Artest acting so loony that no one notices, he's also become the reigning expert on erratic player behavior. Like how John Dean is now on news shows as an invaluable resource on political corruption.
Maybe Artest's found inner peace, or we've all learned how to translate his words and actions into what Ron-Ron really means. Regardless, I found it a little strange to see him weighing in on the situation of former teammate Stephen Jackson with a certain clinical distance.
From Boston.com:
I know he's a friend, a good guy and a good friend," Artest said before his Lakers faced the Clippers at Staples Center on Sunday. "But I am sure he's going alright. He just wants to win, that's it. They said he played yesterday so my guess is he's alright. For me (my trade demand) was ego. That's it. For Stephen, it's not that at all. I know that for a fact. For me it was more personal and egotistical and just being a bad teammate."
Artest is much smarter than you think, even as he goofs around or ventures out on a limb. He certainly has Jackson's back, and anyone following the situation can tell that the former Warriors captain isn't motivated by greed or pure perfidy. The man signed a contract with a team that, according to anyone around the league, is sliding backward into the molten core of the Earth.
Jackson's getting old, and would like to end his career playing meaningful games. That's perfectly rational, if at odds with signing a deal; then again, could he have anticipated how badly things would be mismanaged?
Okay, fine, it's the Warriors, so he probably should've guessed. Still, look at Ron Ron, calling Jackson well-meaning and logical, as opposed to his own emotional overloads. Next to Artest, Jackson looks like any other aging guy trying to end on a high note. Will Artest's guerrilla punditry help, make Jackson seems crazy by association, or just further reflect back on the legend of Ron Artest? Only time—I mean, the actual season, which needs to start soon—will tell.
I hope this kinder and gentler Artest doesn't make it onto the court.

Oh you'll get the Dennis Rodman Artest. You get the guy who has figured out how to twitter and be an attention . You get the Artest who will pull some crazy ass in LA. You will get the youtube Artest and the rapper Artest. You get naked jump on the bus Artest.
Wouldn't be suprised if Artest pulls a publicity stunt and marries himself following in the footsteps of Dennis Rodman.
It won't. Artest can't say anything bad about Jackson. Jackson had his back in the brawl in Detroit.
I too want to see the Artest of old on the Lakers. I want to see him in players faces and an occasional hard foul if necessary.
Yeah but he also ed about not getting an extension last year and said like he wanted to lead them back to the playoffs. The gave you that extension and you signed the extension you ed about. You are a team captain. Now only a year later after getting that some $30 million contract, you're trying to get traded. Now you even say you'll take a buyout? You really about it, take an $8 million buyout or less. I have no sympathy for Stephen Jackson and his situation. I don't care how much of a Don Nelson is to him or in general. The man signed a contract with a team that, according to anyone around the league, is sliding backward into the molten core of the Earth.
