What song defines the decade? Not necessarily the best song of the decade (but it should be good) and not necessarily the most popular (but it should be somewhat well known).
Pitchfork says "B.O.B." by Outkast, which frankly isn't a bad pick. "Hey Ya" would be a good pick as well.
Others I'd nominate:
"The Rising" - Bruce Springsteen
"Seven Nation Army" - White Stripes
"Holiday" - Green Day
"Clocks" - Coldplay
"Feel Good Inc." - Gorillaz
"Take Me Out" - Franz Ferdinand
I know it's a bit of a poppy list but there are enough snobby indie lists on the web already. I doubt many people are going to remember the aughts as the decade of The Knife or LCD Soundsystem, but maybe that's just me.

I don't like the song but "American idiot" from Green Day was huge this decade.
I've always thought of this question. Like if (more like when) VH1 has the top 100 songs of this decade what will be #1.
If we're talking about Gorillaz then it HAS to be "Clint Eastwood".

The '00 sucked as far as music goes.
That's cause we're still living in them you r. I'm pretty sure most people thought music was better the previous decade. I'm pretty sure during the 90s everyone who grew up in the 80s was ripping on the 90s for sucking. Let time tellIts kind of sad that all of these lame songs are up for songs of the decade

^ I was a teenager throughout most of the '00 and thought just about all of today's music sucks. I know it's my opinion, but I can't imagine anybody listening to these songs like they do to some classics from the previous decades.
The good songs in the 00's weren't popular... or not decade popular.
January 2010 is a whole different story.

i dunno man, most of todays songs i dont even listen to it or remember them much compared to songs from anything b4 the 90s, like classic rock anthems etc....
70's was the best decade for music.

Miley Cyrus - Party In the USA is a pretty good choice.
But out of those spurminator listed, it would probably be 7 Nation Army. The riff is pretty memorable. It's even become a popular chant at sports events.

And it was borderline decade, but I'd go real slim shady. This song is what got millions of white kids listening to rap and completely changed a lot. Either that or lose yourself, but IMO Eminem has had more of an impact this decade than any other artist.

BEP had the best NFL performance that I can remember. I think Goodell has already contacted them about doing the Super Bowl half time show after seeing them do the Pre game for Tennessee and Pitt.
