Well, it might make sense if he's speaking from the perspective of a Spurs fan. If I were a Spurs fan, I would certainly prefer the 90's Ross Perot Jr Mavs to the 00's Mark Cuban Mavs. As a Mavs fan, however, I'll take what the oughts hath brought.
