Blazers overpaid for both Roy and Aldridge. If the players weren't willing to take team-friendly contracts, the Blazers should have let them both hit the market next summer. There would have been virtually no downside from that approach as they have committed the max to Roy and nearly 90% of max to Aldridge. Signing these two also severely weakens their position next summer when Oden comes looking for his extension.

A good signing, much better than signing underacheivers like Artest and Odom.

You can't possibly believe that.
The Lakers bought 5 seasons of Artest plus 4 seasons of Odom for the same price that Blazers are paying for 5 seasons of Aldridge.
Lakers paid below market prices for both of their players while the Blazers bid against themselves and overpaid for both Roy and Aldridge.
I think Aldridge will prove to be worth his contract.
Odom has been an underacheiver his entire career and Artest is a cancer.
