if that math is correct, and I'm not about to do it, then absolutely he will, seeing as how there's about 3 months of the regular season after january.
TD has 19.246pts in his career. If he averages 19PPG he will hit the 20.000 mark in January.
The Admiral has 20,790 pts in his career and is the Spurs all time leader in points
If TD plays 82 games and average 18.5 he can become the all time leader this season. But as Pop already said, TD will rest in some back to back games. So I think he'll need to average near 20PPG to do it this season.
Do you think TD can do it this season or the next one?

He needs 1545 points.
His point totals for the last six seasons (most recent season first):
1450
1508
1599
1485
1342
1538
Given a likely decrease in minutes and the availability of better scoring support this year, smart money says it does not happen this season.
do those all-time numbers include playoffs? cause if they do, I see TD passing him in the playoffs...otherwise, we may have to wait til early next season.
RS numbers
Duncan leads in playoff points 3724-2221.
He needs 42 points to pass Robinson in combined points.
Duncan current points: 19,246
My prediction for his season: 18.9 ppg, 72 games
19,246 + 1,360 = 20,606
So, on my math, he will come close, but will probably break it in the 2010-11 season.
If he does break it this season, it would probably be in one of the last couple games of the season, and he'd have to average something like 20.5 ppg over 76 games.
For ShoogarBear:
Gervin as a Spur (including ABA): 23602 points
Gervin as a Spur (NBA only): 19383 points
More than David no matter how you count it.
I was about to post the same.
Though I'm not sure how 19383 > 20790.![]()
The ABA counts, unless you are one of those Red Auerbach-worshiping jerkoffs.
The point is that DRob is NOT the Spurs all-time leading scorer.
My mistake, I looked at the OP and caught Timmy's total instead of David's.
So I guess it does depend on how you count it.
Thanks
I agree, the ABA definitely counts. So, Tim will likely pass David sometime during the 2010-11 season, and will likely never pass the Iceman.
Likely never? I'd say unless his game goes off a cliff, he's likely TO pass him. Duncan is only 4356 short, with 3 years left on his contract. If he averages only 1452 per season, he hits the Ice number on the button. If you look at those numbers for the past 6 years, his post MVP injury prone ones, he's only been under that number twice, once by 2 points.
Duncan has a good shot at passing Ice, unless Blair ends up being much better offensively than expected and somebody like Splitter comes along.
In which case nobody would be surprised to see Tim pull a DRob and basically give up his shot at the record for the good of the team.
I doubt it will happen this season with all the games he'll be taking off but he'll do it next year no doubt.
It could be likened to that DRob scenario, but there's another one: when Rodman came aboard and lightened his load. Much of Tim's time on the floor is spent in a supporting role to Tony, just rebounding because most of the rest of the bigs suck at it. If those are the minutes shaved, his scoring shouldn't suffer much, if at all. In fact, he may be fresher in 32 minutes and more efficient.
Good call, my math was off in that case (knew I shouldn't just eye ball it). However, I do think there's a pretty decent chance he won't pass it during his current contract. Even if his game declines just slightly and he averages 18.5 ppg in 75 games per year, that only puts him at 1388 points per year. The question then becomes if he hangs up the sneakers or goes for another contract.
Well here's hoping Timmy gets it this year, or the year next to it.
How about rebounds?
Timmy already has that.
Sortable chart for career Spurs stats, just ckick on the column headers:
http://www.basketball-reference.com/...=&order_by=trb
btw, B-R counts ABA numbers
he is already the spurs all time leader in total rebounds
By the end of the season, Tony will be 4th on the all-time Spurs list for:
Points
Games played
Minutes played
Field Goals
Field Goals Attempted
As well as second in assists.
Who's ahead of TP in assists? AJ ofcourse right?
How many til he passes him?
Click the link for the chart I posted. You can sort for any stat you like.
I'd say it's probably a coin flip. He gets it if he plays those 75 games for the next 3 years and averages 19.5, not at all out of the realm of possibility.
I would think he would only sign another contract/extension if he wanted to play more, not to go after Ice's number.
Jeezus, Kenon was good. Five seasons and he's 4th in rebounds and 8th in scoring in franchise history.
