mono still ridiculously bitter about 38-34
Steve McNair made a stupid decision that led to his death, but at least he never exploited faith in God to further his own agenda.
mono still ridiculously bitter about 38-34
not ture.....there are a ton of storys out there about how he has helped people useing his faith....
CHEATriots
isn't it funny how i put 'cheat' in there?
exactly how has dungy exploited faith in God to further his own agenda?
What's his agenda?
I can't wait until the Texans play the Pats this season. Pollard is gonna take his knee out again.
You don't understand, Blake.
It's OK for McNair to run around on his wife and kids with multiple women...after all, that's the athlete way.
It's not OK to be known as a Christian around the league. To be known as a man of God in the league, you have to have a hidden agenda. That Dungy is one sneaky man.
<read with thick sarcasm>
just wait until tebow gets there and converts the whole league. praise be to tebowjesus.
Tony Dungy's agenda is Tony Dungy. Just like every other snake oil salesman out there.
If you're a God fearing man, great. Just don't take a holier-than-thou stance with everybody and use it to sell books.
I really wonder how high the bidding war got between, Dungy, Sharpton, & Jesse for the right to be Michael Vick's "mentor".
From the looks of his TD celebration, Plaxico Burress is a so-called "man of God" too.
I don't agree with Monos about the whole "agenda" thing, but Dungy is one of many players/coaches who likes to hide behind the "I'm a nice guy who loves Jesus" skirt in order to garner fan support and get off easier for bad performances.
Another example of this is Kurt Warner playing like complete dog against San Francisco week one of this year and then bringing a bible to the press conference in hopes of avoiding anything that questions how hard he worked in training camp, his preparation for the game, or his decision making throughout the game.
I hate to say it, it works. Just look at all the Dungy slob knocking going on in this thread.
You're right. I bet Dungy has been cooking this up his whole life.
Even now that he's not coaching...he's pretending to be nice just in case he gets back into it someday.
Are you people really so jaded that you can't imagine a person who is truly happy and loves the Lord?
That's really sad.
I don't think you've been on spurstalk long enough to know that the board is full of atheists and they scoff at religious people more than the mookie crew scoffs at me.
I've been on this board a few years now. I just don't post a whole lot...well, not as much as many others anyway.
I know there are a lot of atheists on here...but to insist Dungy is using his beliefs to get a free pass is ridiculous.
The man has devoted his whole life to being a Christian and serving the Lord.
Do you believe he did that just on the off chance it'll help him get a free pass someday as an NFL coach?
This is such an insane argument. I still maintain it's sad that there are so many jaded people on this board that they can't see the good in people. They just assume the decent ones are "acting" and they're only out for themselves.
how is it insane? are you saying that there aren't "christians" out there who misrepresent themselves? people have a right to be cynical.
how do you know this?
so you read the book?If you're a God fearing man, great. Just don't take a holier-than-thou stance with everybody and use it to sell books.

...."He could have absolutely been doing anything else, but decided to spend time with us," said Traveguz Butler, 34, serving a 30-year sentence that extends to December 2028 for carjacking, robbery and false imprisonment. "It's uplifting. I'm glad that he was able to lower himself down to our level."
At a place where there are seven formal head counts each day — and as nearly two dozen armed guards kept close watch — Dungy did not merely lecture from an arm's length. After a 20-minute speech, he was swarmed by prisoners and spent a half-hour in face-to-face conversations.
George "Big Country" Edmonds, serving a life sentence for murder, got Dungy's autograph.
"I've got something to talk about for a long time," Edmonds said. "Sometimes when people come in, they won't even shake your hand. But he's out here in the middle of us."
Dungy spent six hours at Hardee, including more than an hour with inmates in solitary confinement. Then it was a trip to the work camp, where he ate the prison food for lunch — shredded turkey smothered in a bland, tomato-based sauce, cold pasta, carrots, cu ber salad and yellow cake that prisoners who quickly flowed through the cafeteria in 15-minute shifts raved was better than usual.........
......Offers for Dungy to hit the speaking circuit and join various community-service causes provide many options. Following up on the success of the biographical Quiet Strength, which reached No. 1 on the New York Times' best-seller's list, Dungy released Uncommon in February. A guidebook of sorts, centered around faith-based principles for life, it also became a best-seller status — and increased demand for Dungy. But he is reluctant to spread himself thin.
He admires President Obama (he and Lauren attended the inauguration), but Dungy turned down a White House invitation to be on a council for faith-based, neighborhood partnerships.
There also was a call from DeMaurice Smith, the new executive director of the NFL Players Association. Smith, gearing up for labor talks with the league, asked Dungy to serve in a new position as liason to the NFL. Dungy declined.
"I want to be helpful," says Dungy, who worked 31 years in the NFL as a player or coach. "If they ask for my opinion on things I'll be glad to give it. But I'm not really looking for a full-time job."
But Dungy says he will increase his participation with the prison ministry that Brown, 82, a one-time high school football coach and ex-pastor, established in 1976 with visits to a former player who was imprisoned for murder......

I wonder what how high the bidding was got between Dungy, Sharpton and Jesse for the right to be the guest speaker at this prison.
I wonder if it was more than the $5+ million a year he was getting as head coach because Dungy is all about Dungy.
You're an idiot.

It's great that Dungy can spend all his time in front of cameras mentoring prisoners and Michael Vick. It's just too bad there weren't cameras around his family, maybe that would have prompted Dungy to mentor his own son before he killed himself.
the longhorns kicker crosses himself before every kick he makes
guess he's furthering the his own catholic agenda in the ncaa now isn't he
how much has Dungy made off of all this self promoting?
how would cameras around his family have prompted Dungy to mentor his son before he killed himself? It's just too bad there weren't cameras around his family, maybe that would have prompted Dungy to mentor his own son before he killed himself.
Maybe if cameras had been around your father when he was mentoring you, you wouldn't have turned out such a got.
I'm not agreeing with Monos here, but I think the point is that Dungy seems to always look extra nurturing and caring when there's a camera stuck in his face, and that if he was like that around his son, he wouldn't have killed himself. Again, I'm not agreeing, just trying to piece it together.
Some people have psychological problems that no parent can see coming. The general point about a fake camera persona I do agree with. We all know the Kobe Bryant we saw mentoring and being nice to his teammates during "Kobe Doin' Work" is not the same the Kobe Bryant in team meetings or at practices that had VladRad demanding a trade away from a championship favorite and Lamar Odom on the brink of taking less money with Miami.
