NYT Jocks Jennings, Outs Bogut As Hypocrite
    SportingNews

I'm among those rooting for Brandon Jennings to blossom as a pro. Actually, I'm counting on it, since dude is sick with so many unnecessary capital letters and exclamation points it's not even funny. And I'm not the only one. In fact, due to Jennings's groundbreaking European sojourn last year, no less august a publication than The New York Times has continued to cover Jennings even after he became just another flashy young rook.

Maybe this is just a contingency plan trigger by Rubio's reluctance to join Minny, but regardless, we're getting some especially sensitive, granular reporting from America's paper of record as the Bucks PG attempts to find his place in the league. And due either to the NYT's pro-Jennings slant or their need to chronicle his career like no other—after all, BJ was a pioneer in his day—you get some good material in these:

The N.B.A. is faster and more physical than Jennings expected. And the players, even the journeymen, are a handful. “That really surprised me,” Jennings said. “Everyone’s really legit. Everyone’s special in their certain way.”

I just love that Jennings has somehow gotten hardworking and humble ingrained in his image, despite all the swagger in his game and personality. That might be the biggest asset he gained from Europe: No one will ever call him spoiled or slack again, no matter how many crazy turnovers he commits.

But the real gem here, however inadvertent, concerns a certain outspoken Aussie teammate of the rook:

There is an Italian-made Ferrari in the players’ parking lot, but it does not belong to Jennings. It is center Andrew Bogut’s car. Jennings opted for a Ford Edge, with its sticker price of $26,000. “I want to save my money,” he explained.

Anyone who closely follows the league is familiar with Bogut's periodic rants against the con uous consumption and general tackiness of his peers in the league. Sometimes it sounds like he's scolding them for not knowing the value of a dollar; then, he'll turn around and sound like he just plain doesn't like flashy hip-hop thugz spoiling the game. Thus, given what a jerk Bogut's been in the past about condemning materialism around the league, this is seriously rich. Arrogant rookie opts for the Ford, blue-collar foreign center outed as big spender. Great work, NYT.

Even Scott Skiles had praise for Jennings. There is finally a PG in Scott Skiles' system who is allowed to attack the basket. Jennings racks up the assists easily and has excellent court vision.

I believe Ty Lawson and Brandon Jennings are the two top rookie PGs so far in the preseason.
