cool!
Just happened over the phone.
You all know I work for ACORN Housing. And yes they're in a world of mess.
The position I hold is a full-time temporary grant funded position, but was temporary as long as we continued to have the grant (which was in the bag as far as ACORN Housing could tell for years to come...well until...). I was assured once all this went down that they would find something for me to do (that was early September). Well, yeah, so that's not too true.
My last day is Friday.
I have interviews for two positions at other local non-profits this coming week and am waiting to hear if I will be moving forward in the Teach For America process later this week. So, it wasn't like I didn't see this coming. But, if you all could please send some good vibes and prayers my way so this lay-off could be non-existent that would be absolutely fabulous. And I promise not to be a whiny baby about my job hunt like I was last time.
Thanks!
cool!
I would have told them "I have a pink slip for you!" and then left.
Sorry to hear that Ashbeeigh. Hopefully you will land the job you really want this time!![]()
Sorry to hear that Ash.
I'm very sorry about what has been perpetrated against you; it's a pretty shameful thing. Best of luck going forward.
what cookie cutter responses thus far.
off
no worries dude, you put perpetrated and shameful in the same sentence, that makes you an instant winner.
So are you gonna take a dump in your desk drawer?
Seriously, good luck with the Teach for America gig...my son did that between college and law school and really liked it.
Good luck to you. Put your best clean foot out there and go for it!!
Looks like that asshole you were degrading for working at Target is better off than you now, huh?
I haven't read that thread yet.
The Teach For America thing is a staff position, so it wouldn't be teaching (it's so hard to get in to..I know I wouldn't make it!). So...we'll see. Fingers crossed.
Thanks!
sorry to hear it and good luck, but if you start dancing, let us know!
Hey yeah, if you start dancing then start a thread with all the info.
ACCORN is a shameful organization.
Good luck with the hunt.
Seems like you're handling the situation as well as can be expected; good for you. And best of luck in your job search. If you need any help, let me know. I work with a few non-profits, none of which are hiring at this present time, but you never know.
At this point that's probably better on a resume than working for ACORN housing.
Hopefully you will get a call back from that interview you did last week.
Thanks, Katy. If any of them do have anything please let me know. At this point I'll pretty much do anything.
If I were you I would take that degree of your's and apply for the FBI. I mean it couldn't hurt?
With a wonky eye and dirty feet I doubt if they would take me.
But seriously, isn't there a monstrous test you have to take? And then a series of like 200 interviews to get in? I can hardly solve a Wheel of Fortune puzzle without racking my brain...and you want me to join the FBI?
Shame how companies expect nothing but stand up honesty from their employees yet they lie and deceive them if it's beneficial for the company to do so.
"your job is safe... We'll keep you as an asset to this company" really means "stay just a while longer cause we need you for a week/month to finish some things before we toss you out".
Actually it sounds like you would be a perfect fit!![]()
It's a process, but I know some guys who got in that worked with me. You're biggest problem might be the physical parts of it. But some of those guys I know that got in are idiots. You are 100x's smarter than they are. They are smarter than me because they had the smarts to go to college first though.![]()
