SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs announced today that they have picked up the option for the 2010-11 season for guard George Hill.
In his rookie season Hill appeared in 77 games, averaging 5.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 16.5 minutes. As a starter he averaged 9.7 points, 3.4 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 27.9 minutes in seven games while filling in for the injured Tony Parker. During that stretch Hill posted his four highest scoring games of the season: scored 20 points in 29:28 minutes on 11/19 vs. Denver, had a career-high 23 points in 22:37 minutes on 11/21 vs. Utah, tallied 20 points in 28:36 minutes on 11/24 at Memphis and had 19 points – along with a career-best 11 rebounds – in 32:40 minutes on 11/26 vs. Chicago.
An early entry candidate in the 2008 NBA Draft, Hill was selected by the Spurs in the first round with the 26th overall pick out of IUPUI. He is the first player school history to be selected in an NBA Draft and appear in an NBA game.
Congrats George!!!
Well, they do have 2 games before the deadline. They'll wait til the last possible moment either way.
Nicely done!![]()
No doubt it was going to happen, but great to see it in writing.
+1
He sucks.
The only reason to wait is to see if they can trade him to another team. In that case the other team may want the option picked up. I don't see any scenario where they extend him to keep him. If they were going to do that, why not make the announcement together with the Hill announcement? Surely they don't need two regular season games to come to a conclusion.
Why? Is there a limit on players they can extend?
I think they won't resign but continue to evaluate. They don't know enough about him to extend but he could still improve.
No, but there's really no reason not to announce both extensions together. The deadline is Saturday.
What if they do?
Theres no reason to not announce it saturday either.
Ahh, you responded while I was editing. I think they won't resign him but will wait to evaluate more. It doesn't look good but he'll still be here this year. And his value will only go down with limited minutes so they could resign him cheaper, even if he shows enough for him to stick around.
Then I'd be wrong.
Wouldn't be the first time, won't be the last.
Your no fun.![]()
Should I have told you drink bleach?

I'm glad to hear this.
He's a great option for the future
Given how low the option was and Hill's level is was an easy choice.
It looks more and more that Spurs are giving up on Ian. I still think he can turn into a good NBA player and I hope he will succeed with another team.
Nice. I think this is going to be a big season for George, now that Pop seems like he's ready to give him consistent minutes.
Great
George will be a beast in a couple of years.
DRAINO! GET IT RIGHT!![]()
