Obvious answer is KG. If McHale wasn't so stubborn, it would have happen when LA offerred LO and Bynum for him. Buss and Taylor actually had a deal agreed upon between them but McHale talked his boss out of it.
Oh well. I'm happier where LA is now.
If a couple years back, you could pick any player, I mean ANY player to pair up with Kobe would you still have gone with Gasol? Who would pick if not?
Frankly, I think Gasol had the perfect set of skills and relatively mild ego to coexist with Kobe.
make it even more interesting and give your top 3... Frankly I can only think of one player that might have worked out better.

No fan would have been pining for TD because it had no chance of ever happening.
No sure how I could make it much clearer than 'ANY player' in the OP.
Gasol is that kind of player every team wants.
The Lakers would be super scary if they had managed to get Dwight Howard.

I didn't want the Lakers to trade LO and Bynum, but if they could have gave up one for KG, I'd be ecstatic. At this point in their careers, I feel Gasol is the better player.
Kobe and TD would be ownage..of course in a Lakers jersey, not in a Spurs.
Spurs shoulda thrown everything to get TD and Kobe together 2 years ago. lol

If the Lakers had KG they would of won it in 08, but not last year. With Gasol they have a chance to 3 peat and then more, health permitting.
+1. It turned out better for us that we didn't get KG. Our window stays open longer.

3 years ago, i would taken KG, Duncan, and Dirk in that order.
they all can hit the mid range, and with KG and TD, they can give you that physical play inside. with dirk, kobe would operate the mid post and dirk would have space to hit threes, make runners, and wreak havoc
sons, kobe and TD would win 6 in a row. lol
Duncan is pretty shaky on the "in a row" business.
Kobe will teach him a thing or two then.
This is true. Bryant did save Shaq's considerable fat from the fryer in Portland/2000 playoffs, and dragged him kickin' & screamin' to the three peat.
