There's no universal definition of good fingering skills (though I can think of a few things, including long nails, that are pretty obvious mistakes), so it's hard to use your experience to make that assumption. Different girls like different things, so maybe the women you're thinking of had very specific likes that are hard to find.

Is/was your problem with him that his smaller penis made him look weird naked? Or that it wasn't satisfying? If it's the latter, I don't know that the situation is quite analogous to a lack of interest due to someone's weight, or something like that.

I agree but c'mon...there are all those opportunities for verbal/physical cues...slowly segue into something and be aware of responses...if you are even a little confused with mixed signals just ask...it's not that hard.
Well as much as I love fingering, I'm not into just laying there being fingered. There is always something happening elsewhere simultaneously and I don't like the distraction of thinking "Oh no where is this going"; I'd rather just think about other things.
