over the past few years, the mavs had to work hard for each and every point, and down the stretch, that will wear you down in a game and make it a lot harder to execute. not to mention, the only guys they could trust to create offense in the clutch was Dirk and Terry. it would basically turn into 2-on-5 because no one else knew how to really feed off of them for easy buckets.
during the few years the suns were good, their specialty on offense was that all they could do was get layups and dunks. easy buckets. but when defenses would clamp down, no one was capable of creating offense.
now the mavs still have their guys who can work and create offense, but having marion adds another dimension in which they can get easy buckets when the defense is focused on stopping Dirk and Terry.
marion's presence should definitely have a positive effect down the stretch for the mavs, in his ability to move without the ball and get easy buckets.
mavs have all the potential in the world. lets hope they build on this win and keep improving. they have a long ways to go.
also... great pick set by dirk. clean pick, and he showed some of his "enforcer" side... the little we see anyways. it was great to see that, after the way brown started turning into a y chump because he thought he got a steal off of kidd. hopefully we see more of that.

I think Marion improves the mavs greatly. He is one of the best rebounding 3s in the league. Where I see a problem is that Carlisle is going to end up betraying his own philosphy yet again to win games short term, going quick fast small ball, and mavs are going to blow ass in the playoffs yet again.
They are not a threat to the Lakers steamrolling a dynasty in any way unless their coach somehow gets them to play hardcore D without Cuban interferring in huddles to get them to score more points.
why would carlisle do that?
sure, he loves barea and has done some of the threeguard (not tonight though), but i think he was forced to do that a lot last year because of the inep ude of the rest of the 2s and 3s on the team, as well as howards injury. i doubt we see much of that crap at all against elite teams, unless their offense is absolutely sucking ass and he is just trying to find something to throw out there to get a jump start.

Carlisle did that last year because your lord and savior Cuban is in on every huddle and listens in on every team meeting and therefore thinks he is smart in the ways of basketball. He is far too rich and smart in other aspects to admit he does not know a god damn thing about the sport. He forced your team to adopt failing strategies year after year. You are right about the 2's and 3's, but the fact is the Mavs have alot of tools to become a pretty damn solid team. Defensively and rebounding wise. But you cannot run and gun constantly while doing all of that. And trust me. By all star break if you are not ahead of the pack, you will hear non stop all these side rumors about cuban being dissatisfied about the performance...mavs will go run-and-gun, win a load of games to finish the season, then fizzle hardcore in the playoffs because that doesn't work there.
It's common sense here, you being a mavs poster on spurstalk should be able to get a good grasp of the perspective of your team from the outside.
And dude, mavs smack about the spurs in regards to last year is totally whack and you know it. Popavich himself said to the press we were ed and not contenders the day after Ginobili was out for the season. Your lord and savior Benefactor may tell you owning the spurs in the first round makes it all worth it, but logically we were the underdogs that series.
The problem with Marion is that he whines to the media if he isn't getting attention. In Phoenix, he complained about not getting the accolades that Nash and Stoudemire got. When he got his wish to be traded, his numbers went way down. Now that he's in Dallas, I hope he's been humbled enough to act like a good teammate.
Shawn Marion > Lakers. Nothing to be suprised about.

i was just making a statement as to why it seemed carlisle used that lineup so much... because it was working against the spurs. its all about the matchups. in most cases it wont work, but it so happens that small ball is a spur weakness these days. especially when you got a guy like dirk on the team

marion is a good post scoring sf who lost some athleticism due to age. The fact that he fits well in dallas should not be underrated. At this point i think none but homboys overrate him.
