I know there's about 10 threads on the front page about Manu, so if the mods want to combine this go ahead. But 48MoH just posted PETA's official response, and it is absolutely f-ing hysterical.
I mean, we all joked about PETA saying something, but did anyone really think they'd make a statement?
Via PETA.org:
To bludgeon a 4-ounce animal to death, it takes either a small man or a totally unthinking one—with no respect or consideration for lives humbler than his own. This is a time when athletes in particular need to be on their best behavior around any animal and show that they have brains and a heart, not just reactionary brawn.
Bats always try to avoid contact with humans, and there are plenty of easy ways to keep bats out of a basketball arena (or your home). We hope that the next time someone’s life is on the line, Manu Ginobili will take just a few seconds to think before he acts.
It wasn't "someone's" life. Those stupid idiots.
You know this was coming. ing PETA.
Jesus christ, PETA can be picky bas s.
I'm starting to appreciate PETA's sense of humor.
sake,
PETA are always those heads who value animal lives over humans arent they?
Somebody needs to post this in the comments section:

I can't stand PETA, what a joke. Always on top of everything with their stupid arguments.
i think its just some idiots posting on the PETA BLOG, not PETA per se ...oh wait there is no difference...
I submitted a comment, which I am confidently assuming will not be approved. But I did put my real email address so we'll see what kind of PETA-spiel I'll get.
First, it wasn't a "smack" it was a "love tap."
Second, I'm pretty sure the bat was flopping.
Third, it was delaying the game. If you were delaying my game, I'm pretty sure I'd love tap you too.
But the bat "lived", right? I am convinced that PETA must have Onion writers on staff, "someone's life". Pffft. Do they hold a wake when they hit a squirrel with their Smart cars?
I don't remember them raising a stink when Bruce squashed a hornet a few years ago. What a bunch of hypocrites to accuse Manu of placing a bat beneath him when they clearly think that mammals are somehow superior to insect life. We all must share this planet PETA! We don't just get to pick and choose which lives are precious enough to protect! Just because something has more legs than fur doesn't make them worthless, you bas s!

Did PETA just implicitly compare Manu Ginobili to Michael Vick? Wow.
http://blog.peta.org/archives/2009/11/manu_ginobili.php
Not that I agree with them. Short-sighted at times, the intention isn't malicious from Ginobili.
Had he have been able to do that without harm to the bat, then those PETA peeps would've bowed down on one knee and called him a hero.
I guess you got to say something to bring attention to your group, even at the expense of a man who just wanted to curtail a swooping bat.
Whatevs Peta Peeps....whatevs.
from the same organization that got on obama for swatting a fly to death.
does this mean manu is the new michael vick ?
Oh good grief, no.![]()
I don't know that they will allow my comment to be posted:
The bat should have known better than to trespass in Texas. AT&T Center is the home of the Spurs, after all.![]()
Serious answer:
While I did not wish the bat's death, I would rather see the bat perish than see of of the PEOPLE in the building suffer injury.
There were numerous children in the stands. What if the bat had flown into one of them instead of Manu?
The injuries to the children could have been serious.
All things considered, the scenario did not end that badly.

On behalf of everyone that didn't get bitten by the bat, I'd like to thank Manu for risking disease to clear a pest out of a public place. I'm unsure why there isn't more hate directed toward the person that chose to bring a bat to a basketball game on Halloween.
