He hurt himself in this game and was never the same after that:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=270328006

That's partly why they struggled down the stretch after clinching the #1 seed. He developed bone spurs and was only about 70% of himself the rest of the way. Avery was the coach then and didn't believe in making excuses, so not a lot was said about it at the time.
BTW I never used the "hobbled" excuse. If he was out there and running, he has no excuse. Dirk or Duncan.

spurs fans need to STFU about Dirk, the guy is constantly owning the spurs.
Agloco sounds like the most butthurt guy ever. I want to know how many guys scored 29 in the final quarter of an elimination game.

Everyone on the Mavs just looked like they were going to go through the motions all night, and be content with beating the Lakers.

    Dirk said no.

why couldn't Dirk do this vs. Warriors or vs. Hornets?
"It’s absolutely outrageous to have to endure the haters today reflecting on Dirk’s effort by saying, “Yeah, but he doesn’t do it in the playoffs!’’ Because, damnit, he DOES do it in the playoffs!
How do people forget this extremely impressive factoid: since 1952, there are only five men who have averaged 25/11 for their careers in the playoffs. Those five men are all single-named legends: Hakeem, Pe , Shaq, Elgin. ...
    And Dirk."

It's not even on the headlines of the NBA section on Espn.com.

Man, if Lebron did that, they'd put it down as a top 5 fourth quarter performance in league history.

the mavs have always been hated on and never given their due credit. dirk's epic 4th quarter barely made any headlines. if anyone gave a about the mavericks, then there would have been a huge outcry during the 2006 abomination of a finals. as mav fans we have to just suck it up and silently know the truth, no matter what anyone says

i mean, i can say dirk is the best pf in the league, and spur fan would never agree, but you and i both know the truth

Doesn't matter if you'd take LeBron, Kobe, Wade etc... In their case and if possible, they'd enshrine such a performance into the HoF.

Dirk has no support by the media, because he's not interesting for them. He will never get the same credits like KB, LBJ, Duncan, Garnett or anyone else of the star-players. Who is he? In their opinion, he's a a lanky, white, tall European-guy who is shooting the three and using the jumpshot. Dirk ain't a screamer. Dirk ain't tough. He has no street cred. He isn't a thug. He goes about his business the best way he can. Dirk would never say that he's the best player in the world -> http://www.hoopsvibe.com/nba-blog/wh...t-ar48724.html

Dirk doesn't get arrested and hasn't been accused of anything besides being in the gym too much. Dirk isn't going to give many hot-sports-opinions about other players or get in many fights. Who truly despises Dirk? Simply: That isn't sexy for the media and thus, they don't favour him and many fans have a bad impression of him.

Why the f has this not gotten more national attention? This ranks up there with T-Mac 13 in 30 and was one of the best things I have ever seen in basketball.

Maybe due to the reasons I named. Who knows? But it's definitely a pity. It's up there with T-Mac's 13, that's for sure.

Btw, it was just 2 points shy of the NBA record for the 4th quarter. That one is still set by Wilt Chamberlain in his 100-point-game against the Knicks in 1962. If Kidd hadn't inbounced the ball to Terry but to Dirk (just before Dirk left the game with 30 seconds to go), Dirk would have gotten fouled instead of Terry and I honestely, I would not have been surprised if he had tied that record.

Edit: And he tied the NBA record for most FT's made in one quarter with 14. Some players have achieved that so far. Michael Jordan (twice), Adrian Dantley, Rick Barry, Pete Maravich and Johnny Newman.

29 points in a half is impressive. 29 points in a quarter is just crazy. 29 points in the 4th quarter makes you a balls-out clutch-ass mother er. Dirk couldn't miss, and the rest of his team played stellar D.

If Kobe had done it, it would have been all over the place. That really was an incredible performance. Way to go Dirk

I spent a few years living in a small town named Wuerzburg, Germany where Dirk is from, and they are crazy about him.
