Scola tried to duck out of the forearms' way causing the stupid jackass to lose his balance and fall.

That call could be considered a candidate for the top 5 worst calls ever seen grace an nba court.

That it ended up being the lakers' benefit just irks my su ion levels, which were already on high alert.

Scola isn't innocent.

South American players have the "art of the foul without fouling and flopping but not flopping" down to a science. Fabricio was the master of this.

Just like on the foul that Scola fouled out on. It looked all innocent; like Kobe was just getting the superstar calls and Scola was an innocent victim of a bad call.

But on the replay you see Scola pretend to look away and then sneakily put his arm out and push Kobe.

Houston had a chance to regain the lead, but will rue two missed opportunities. The first came on a drive by Aaron Brooks in which Lamar Odom fouled him along the baseline just before Brooks flipped a shot into the underside of the rim. Although it seemed a clear continuation call, the foul was ruled on the floor, denying Brooks two free throws that could have put Houston ahead with 13 seconds left.

Although it was only John Hollinger, it's funny how these things always happen when the Lakers are involved, and they seem to be the beneficiary almost every time.

The problem was Hollinger was actually at the game and didn't have the benefit of replay as we do on TV. He was doing a "live blog" at the game yesterday in Houston.

On replay, Odom clearly fouled Brooks the minute he got past him. It wasn't a shooting foul as Brooks had not stopped his dribble.

My favorite Tommy Nunez story is from the 2007 playoffs when the San Antonio Spurs were able to get past the Phoenix Suns in the second round. Of course, what many fans didn't know was that Phoenix had someone working against them behind the scenes. Nunez was the group supervisor for that playoff series, and he definitely had a rooting interest. Nunez loved the Hispanic community in San Antonio and had a lot of friends there. He had been a referee for 30 years and loved being on the road; in fact, he said that the whole reason he had become a group supervisor was to keep getting out of the house. So Nunez wanted to come back to San Antonio for the conference finals. Plus, he, like many other referees, disliked Suns ownerRobert Sarver for the way he treated officials. Both of these things came into play when he prepared the referees for the games in the staff meetings. I remember laughing with him and saying, "You would love to keep coming back here." He was pointing out everything that Phoenix was able to get away with and never once told us to look for anything in regard to San Antonio. Nunez should have a championship ring on his finger.

JJ...first off, that story comes from the biggest loser to grace an NBA court with his presence. If you believe that, you're a bigger idiot than he is. Second off, to the OP, it's one ing call in a game early in the season. It doesn't mean . Let's not start whining already...come on...if the refs wanted the Lakers to win that game, they would have won before overtime...they want to get the out of there...they have dinner plans, as Sean Elliott would say.
