Ryan Anderson's statline last night.
26 mins, 8-14 (3-3 from deep), 10 boards (7 offensive), an assist, a steal, and 20 points.
This guy was phenomenal last night, crashing the offensive glass and spacing the floor for the magic. He scored a variety of ways and played good solid defense.
This is the type of play the spurs need (but will never see) from Matt Bonner.

Didn't they play the Suns last night? That kind of dillutes the impressiveness of that stat line.
The only reason Matt Bonner starting with Duncan is he can spread defense, Ryan Anderson is doing the same thing for Dwight Howard. But he has much better finishing still in paint, and better shoot technique, his releasing point is higher and he releases quicker. On defense, he is not that good, but still he is easily better than Bonner.
My point is that if Popovich is steadfast on starting a big that can shoot from long range to spread the floor, find one that can also REBOUND the basketball and play defense.
Obviously, they do indeed exist out there, and are reasonably priced.
Who would you give from our team in a deal for Anderson? Blair?
I wish Pop would give up on this idea. It's not as though TD is continousuly drawing double teams, as he once did. Besides, Bonner's last 2 playoff performances have been enough to convince me that this idea may be suitable for the regular season, but failed for the playoffs. Bonner IS NOT the 2nd coming of Robert Horry.
Besides, it's unrealistic for Pop to demand improvements in overall defensive efficiency, when two-fifths of his starting lineup (Finley & Bonner) are serious defensive liabilities.

It's also unneccessary to assume that current rotations will be in place at the end of the season.
Doubt they'd go for that trade with their own version of "The Beast" Brandon Bass already backing up the PF spot. If Bass wasn't there I could see them thinking about it though.
If you don't think that Pop will continue "milking" minutes from Bonner, as part of his regular rotation, you've been asleep the past two years.
Bonner played 36 mins in that game too. Did he get double figure rebounds even? No.

So, is the point of the thread that you woke up to the fact there is a better player than one of the Spurs players and decided we shouldn't play our player because there are other better ones in other teams?
If he was everything that Bonner is not he'd be a four foot tall black woman with green hair and an allergy to bread.

The OP hates Matt Bonner. He apparently is not really committed to his hate, so he tries to justify it with an objective foundation. He is, however, rather undisciplined in searching for objective evidence so his case is usually easy to expose. In this case, he has just set up a strawman that is completely irrelevant.
Objective evidence was given. I'll reiterate the case. Ryan Anderson is a
3pt shooting specialist PF/C who makes 1/3 of what Bonner is making but can also do other things like, um, REBOUND THE BASKETBALL.
Is that objective enough for you?

True, how is he going to search for objective evidence, since the evidence - Bonner's rebounding rate for his career or as a Spur - does not back his accusations...
I don't doubt Bonner will continue to see playing time, no, but Pop didn't have much to work with in the frontcourt the past 2 years when he wanted to spread the floor -- KT wasn't playing demonstrably better than Bonner (offensively or otherwise), and Fab was only useful under the basket. There are more choices this year.

Anderson was 21st pick in draft. Bonner was 45th. So Anderson SHOULD be doing twice as good as Bonner, right?
Last year he was .393% in FG and .36% in 3pt. Bonner's career avg. is .476% and .409%
But the biggest difference is that, like many other players you could compare to Bonner, they play on different teams.
It's happened before. I'm pretty sure I've unintentionally thrown a few softballs that you and Ed have knocked out of the park.
