Don't think Mason has an ego problem. He just can't hit a shot right now. Unfortunately for him, he needs to hit shots if he wants minutes.

A small silver lining for Mason tonight though, 4 assists and only 1 TO as Hill's backup PG tonight............

    He's in a MASSIVE slump..

Bogans' taking minutes from him, and I expect Hill will be getting some of his minutes at the 2 with his clear improvement from last year..

    He better start making some..

If this was Finley there would be 15 threads calling for his head.

Mason is more than in a slump. He's not doing anything out there.

Without him, the spurs were lottery bound last year....

He'll pull it together, but at the end of the day he is what he is.

Just another good shooter who plays weak D.

    Mason 09 = Udoka 08

He just looks horrible. Last year, he couldn't play PG. This year, assists are about all he brings.

Hill has clearly improved his 3-point shooting, and his corner 3s have been going in at a very high level since SL/preseason until now..that's going to be another problem for Mason's minutes IMO..

Mase has the size advantage, but it's not a big deal with Hill's length..George is much better at getting into the lane, he's a much better finisher, and he's levels better as a defender..if Hill keeps making the 3s at a good enough rate, there's no reason for Mase to play ahead of him at the 2..

Coming off the bench and knowing that he's not going to have many minutes, he doesn't appear to be as relaxed as he did as a starter. He appears to be rushing and taking bad shots.

I would say RJ is taking Finley's place and Bogans, Hill, and Ginobli are taking Mason's.

While Finley's defense still sucks he's at least hitting his shots and not chucking them at the rate Mason is. Plus Mason's defense is almost as bad as Finley's if not worse. And Mason is getting more minutes than Finley.

    Finley: 48%, 54%, 60%
    Mason: 30%, 24%, no attempts

And that's not even counting tonights numbers: Finley was 0-1 while Mason was 1-7.

He is just in a slump. He will get his stroke back. The reality is we just aren't starving for offense this year so he is going to see less minutes as long as our defense remains as priority number 1. Same seems to go for Fin(hopefully).

Y'Know, it's one thing if the guy's game looks smooth and the shots just don't fall. RMJ looks like he's never played in this offense before. He looks tentative, hesitant, and befuddled.

    Adjusting to a new role.

It'll take time, IMO it'll be a consistent amount of PT off the bench and some shots to fall before he starts getting better.

It's called a shooting slump, if you've ever played with shooting as your best weapon (I'm below 6 feet lol) you'd understand.

He'll get it back, just give it time

It's not like Mason threw up a bunch of off-balance garbage - his shots were open j's that just didn't fall. I don't expect him to slash and finish anytime soon, but open jumpers he can hit.

Mason needs to go. He will always be the kind of player that even when hot from the 3, will give it back at the other end with his turnstile defense.
