Smells like a cost cutting exercise. GM's already being paid and Scott wasn't cheap either.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. From coach of the year to out of a job in two years.
Sort of like what happened to Avery, or what will probably happen to Mike Brown at some point. That award is the kiss of death.

Tend to agree. With the Cavs starting out slow look for some heat to follow unless a nice winning streak occurs. Pop would be the only to survivie a slow start and a losing streak. IMHO

Anyway I agree with some that think this is about scapegoats. New players, slow start, poor chemistry and some injuries have all contibuted to this. But it seems that the players have lsot respect for him and made him expendable so in some sense Scott has to take some of the responsibility for this happening.

Needless to say, I doubt they'll be competing for much more than a first-round loss this season. I'll echo everyone above me: raw deal for Byron Scott. I always liked the guy.

Wasn't the situation sorta the same in NJ too?

This was the last year on Scott's contract IIRC, and there was already talk about replacing him after last season. No surprise at all that he was fired after the poor start to the season.

But let's be honest here, he isn't all to blame. The Hornets are a one-man show right now. West is off to a fairly slow start, Peja is sucking, Okafor is still getting acclimated, they have no starting SG and no bench. Last year they were battling injury problems with Chandler. But when you have unrealistic expectations and an unhappy superstar, somebody has to answer for it.

Maybe we can bring him on as a assistant coach? He is a quality coach and he deserves a shot.

Until the Spurs players start tuning him out, too.

Avery Johnson will be the next, full-time, head coach of the Hornets.
Just scrolling through the responses and yours made me go...hmmm.

Hornets will go for a players coach next IMO.

If you watched that game last night you could see the team had totally quit.

    Pathetic.

    Unlike Fat Antonio.

Oh, wait--you might not live in San Antonio, since 50% of the Spurs fans on here are bandwagoners.

Cleveland should hire him and fire Brown. Mike Brown is a terrible coach.
That is a GREAT idea. Mike Brown is terrible, and Byron would be a big upgrade. Wish that was my idea. BTW, bill Simmons was saying that the team (and CP3 in particular) had tuned out Scott by last season already.

Scott is a good coach but it seems like the PG that have him for a head coach get sick of him real fast. Marbury didn't like him, Kidd could not stand him and now Paul.

You can only pull your rings out so many times to motivate players. Pretty soon it just pisses them off.

But I can't help but wonder also...what decent coach would want to compete with an ego-centric (correction)> GM on the team while trying to secure the common goal of winning?

    Avery wouldn't fit that profile.

Even if they tanked, would the owner want to pay that lottery-salary that comes with that high pick?

Sources are saying that CP3 had something to do with it. Players are like GM's these days.
Scott and Paul were very close with each other. CP3 wanted some talent on the team as did Scott. N.O. is made up of several rejects from other teams.

hmm I wonder if there is really something to that. That could explain why jerry sloan has never accepted the award yet being one of the best coaches for years.

POp wins and then we are cursed with small ball and injuries.

fire pop. so we can keep this COY getting fired trend going
