I didn't second guess . The second I saw Brady staying on the field I immediately said "they're ing idiots if they go for it."
Converting a 4th down at their 40 is one thing. doing it at your own 30 is completely different.
Don't worry Patriot fans, you have the same record as the Cowboys

i think maybe they just didnt like their chances if they gave it back to manning period. 60 seconds earlier they watched him go 80 yards in about two minutes, not to mention doing without having to spend his timeouts.
if they make it belichek is a master and peyton gets to keep staring at his cleats.
was it a good idea to try to convert it? not really. if manning gets his hands on the ball you could be in trouble
was it a good idea to punt it, thus give it to manning and let him run the second 2 minute drill on your gassed defense in as many minutes? not really. if manning gets his hands on the ball you could be in trouble
by the way, i have no doubt that if you were a coach in the nfl you would have won that game.
I certainly wouldn't have called a 2 yard throw that might not have converted even if he wasn't bobbling the catch, and that's a moot point because I never would have gone for it on 4th down at my own damn 30 yard line with the game on the line.
Punt it, you've got a solid punter, so it's possible you can get them back around their own 30 or 20, even further with a favorable bounce. And you give your defense a chance to succeed. If they fail, then it's all pointless. But you at least give them a chance to succeed.
honestly, nor would i, but i can see his side of it too. his offense has like 500yds in the game. he tried to play defense with his offense and it backfired.
it was a bold attempt
Actually, they called two 2 yard throws in a row.
We all know what Manning is capable of but the guy isn't infallible.
Punt and play defense.
exactly! who one of the best coaches in history of the nfl really have done that in hopes of winning the game?! no. He is a also thinking about the future! thats why he is such a good coach, cause he can see the hole picture! He does things his way mono let him do his thing and al will be ok, unless they play the steelers, and the steelers don't play like dog , then u might have a little bit of a issue.
If his defense was gassed, why the would he put them in that position? Give them 70 or 80 yards and the increased margin for error that goes with it. The more ground the Colts have to cover, the better chance they'll make a mistake somewhere along the line.
The clock management on the part of the Patriots was horrible too. Calling a timeout with the clock stopped right before the 4th-down play was galactically stupid.
No, calling the TO after the change of possession was the first galactically stupid call of the night.
I see it all the time...from the Lions.
damn are you guys just gonna be pushed over and cry about 1 lose, mono? their isn't no shame is losing a battle if you can come back to win the war! damn man u gotta defened your team and trust that bill knows what he is doing, you guy have brady THE BEST QB in the mother ing league! you aint got any reason to worry yet, ur 6-3 and in no way hurting!
now the dallas cowboys getting raped by a ty team from wisconsin won't be the headlines tomorrow
yes!
Nice sigs on the first two posts![]()
I'd like to chime in my disgust. Way too much of a gamble. ing . This will piss me off for a long time.
Mono is a biiiiiig Dungy fan, aren't you Mono?
I know people think Belichick was nuts to try with his offense, but I'm not so sure.
Was it a bit unorthodox and ballsy? Sure. But sometimes, you need a coach to make those decisions in the NFL.
As someone stated before, if it would've worked, he would've been hailed a genius. Pats fans from every corner would've been saying how it was a great decision and they would've done the same thing.
Now...why they chose to throw it is beyond me. I don't understand why they wouldn't try to push it 2 yards.
They took a gamble and lost. It happens.
Dang. Were you drinking this morning?
Your posts become unreadable and inane by the second.
Going for it on 4th and 2 was not stupid. They would have won the game had they converted. And since Indy could not have won with a FG, he still seemed to trust his defense to protect 28 yards or whatever it was.
But calling a play that results in Faulk trying to catch it near or at the first down marker was REALLY stupid. Have Faulk run a slightly deeper route and give yourself some padding, for crying out loud!
Pete Carroll's call on 4th and 2 against Texas was even stupider, BTW. Why have Bush standing on the sidelines, unable to even be a decoy? Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, knew you were going to White up the gut on that one, genius!
That call of Belicheat, was CLEARLY Peyton being inside his head and owning him. He was afraid to give the ball back to Manning with 2 minutes starting anywhere on the field. The colts could of started at their own 20 and they still would of drove down and scored.
So really it was a smart move by Belicheat, Peyton was going to lead that team to a win no matter what! So why not put it in Brady's hands to keep it away from Peyton....If anything the pats should put the blame on Tom "deadbeat dad" Brady for failing to convert 2 yards.
looks like I'm the only person on earth, that liked the call!
let me review: for weeks we hear: "they give manning the ball with XX seconds left, so they basically already lost!" and if a coach decides to not give him the ball (or tries to), everyone is beating on him!
I'm not a Pats fan...(I'm a steelers guy)...and if you ask me, which team I'm routing for in that feud, I'd say: Colts all the way, I hate those pats-cheaters and hate, how get are compared to my spurs (steelers are the only team, that makes sense, if any)...so I have no interest to help Belichek...but that call was just right!
whats the difference between Manning going about 70 yards or 29? IMHO it only gives Manning more room to score with a lot of field in front of him. If he wants to get 40 yards on that last drive, he gets it. So he will get to the 30 anyway...maybe even scoring earlier with one deep bomb. if you can stop him, it will be on that last 30 yards, when the field gets tighter.
so Bill decided, to take a rist for that 40 yards. Brady isnt a bad QB last time I checked and I would give him about 40-50% chance of getting the first down (actually higher, but thats more coz I fear him)...but if he does, the game is basically over...if he doenst Manning has lets say 50% to get that TD...while he would have gotten it from that 70yard line as well...maybe by 30%...maybe someone feels that numbers are not right, but I think however you turn it, Bill gave his team the best chance to win it...its not like the Colts only needed a FG and you hand them the ball in FG-range!
Only downside...and I agree, that its a major one...ist, that he showed no trust in his defense. but even there he has a chance, that they say: , we show him, waht we are capable of.
and I think, its a wise team of grown men...so they understand someone rather having Manning stay on the sideline than getting the ball!
to conclude: I liked that call and think, everyone would have celebrated Belicheck if it had worked out.
I'm really courious about bill simmons reaction!
Pussies. I give him props for having the balls to go for the throat and ice the game away. You punt to Peyton in that situation and he rapes your defense anyway. It's what he does, it's his game if you give him the ball back.
It's Tuesday afternoon and I'm still pissed.
you Billy
