If I wanted to run OSX I'd run it on standard PC hardware, a Mac is essentially the same thing now that they run Core 2 Duos. You're really just paying for the software and possibly for a computer that's slightly better built than most PC's, but probably on par with some of the higher end better built PC's such as Dell La udes for example.

You're right. Mac is probably better for you. Though I'm not sure how much torrenting you'll be able to get done for your musical tastes.
Oh really? Are Mac's not good with downloading torrents? I'm still waiting on my Macbook Pro to be delivered so I haven't tried yet. It actually should be here today or tomorrow.

To all the anti-PC folks in this thread that are spouting off about viruses: Your story would be much more believable if you would use less hyperbole.

I get it, your Macs are sooo cool and look really pretty, and you want the world to know you are cool and have a pretty Mac. Congratulations high roller.

just because you're a broke ass don't mean i bought my mac to boost my ego or ride a high horse.

i bought it because of the same stories you hear out of most winOS users mouths who switch platforms. winOS just in' sucks plain and simple.

don't get all heated 'cause you can't afford one jealous low roller.

Actually I can afford one if I wanted one. But one of the reasons I can afford one is because I spend my money wisely and not frivolously on something that I can get cheaper and does the same thing that the cool and pretty expensive thing does for me.

Also, I wasn't talking to you. I don't think you were claiming 100 viruses or whatnot. I think Macs are great for those that want one. I was being playful about the cool and pretty thing... I should have added that they have a great advertising campaign. Fat dumpy guy that likes Windows.... that's so brilliant! So if you aren't fat and dumpy you can't go with Windows... unless that's the way you want to end up? Awesome.

I just get annoyed by the arrogant Mac users that don't know what they are talking about and make up stats to back up their weak arguments. It's sad because there are less tech savvy people that hear their stories and believe it.

Use what you want. I will too.

I think it's interesting when I hear someone's computer lasts them less than two years. Really? What are you possibly doing to that poor machine? Every computer I've ever owned has lasted at least 4 years. I've had three Dells, an IBM, an Acer, and now my custom built gaming PC. 3 Dells from a company that's supposed to be maligned as a source of crap, and none of them has ever given me a major problem?

I download questionable files (cracks for games, random TV from bittorrent, movies, etc.). I game regularly which puts the system at 100% output. I use my computers ALL the time. I throw my laptops around and bring them with me on vacation. Yet all of my computers have never given me any major problems.

I really don't understand how someone can junk a PC in 2 years unless they are so careless with it that they don't realize when downloading a file called supertrojan.exe that it's going to come back to haunt them.

Either I'm really, really, unconscionably lucky or people just don't take care of their machines. It's like someone whining that a new Ford Mustang is unreliable because they drive it 30,000 miles and never change the oil.

    ---

Anyway, I don't hate Apple computers. They are great for what they're designed to do, and offer some unique advantages to PCs. They're obviously well built.

However, I also like value for my money, I like massive beasts that can split the atom, and for me that means I'm consistently buying PCs.

For instance, at Best Buy right now there is the following laptop:

    http://tinyurl.com/yfqw7h2

That's a superior gaming laptop for under $1000 with a Gig of video memory. Incredible. That's the -start- price of the lowest end Mac laptop.

/idly wonders if he just took the bait.

too bad you can't! and don't try to haggle me with that craptastic hack of OSX for pc.

problem is you're looking at this from a "hardware to hardware" comparison when you should be looking at it from an "OS to OS" comparison. yeah macs and regular ol' pc's are the same and can be built to same but you can't just go out and buy OSX and slap it on your pc cause you want to use it. that's the difference here and yeah it sucks that macs are expensive but you get what you pay for and so far i've gotten my monies worth.

Do you even know how to read? I'm not looking at it from a hardware to hardware comparison because they are the exact same thing. Core 2 Duo's with DDR3 and SATA hard drives.

And yes I can just go out and slap OSX on my PC because I want to use it, I've done it quite a few times.

I know it might vary a little depending on the exact hardware, on the hardware I ran it on I did so without any problems. On one computer I had to swap the mini pci wireless card from another laptop because the one in it wasn't compatible, but that's no big deal.

yeah and i did the same with 2 PC's a while back before getting a MAC.

it's definitely not the same no matter how you wanna spin it. it's close, but like they say, no cigar.

btw, why even dabble with OSX if... winOS is so much better? i haven't read anywhere that you claim fame to this notion but i'm sure others have attempted the infamous OSx86 sometime or another on their very own PC's that run winOS.

I was the one who said I had 100 viruses, I don't see how I was being arrogant though? I had to put the Macbook on my credit card for now. I just weighed my options and for me it was better to go with a Mac instead of going through PC's at the rate I currently am.

I don't know much about computers so dealing with PC's was a headache for me. I'm not saying Mac is gonna be better cause idk yet, but if the Macbook last longer than 2 or 3 years then I'll be happy.

It really is the same. Certainly I can step back and say that you can't just buy it and slap it on your PC, at least not 100% of the time, but it can certainly be done. I understand your comparison, and in some cases I do know some people can get it to run without sound, or with some other feature missing, but there is also some hardware that happens to be 100% compatible.

I never said either was better, just that I wouldn't spend the money on the hardware when it's basically the same hardware you'd find on a computer running Windows. I'd rather just buy the less expensive hardware and run OSX on it.

I've done it a few times but as I recall the first was just to see it in action on PC hardware, and the last was for my son on a netbook because he's into graphics design.

My main reason to have any type of computer is for games.

It should be pretty easy to determine where I stand in this.

And people like the OP using a PC keeps me employed so yes, I love Windows .

How anyone can bone their computer up so bad in such a short amount of time is funny to me. I see it on a daily basis at work and when I go to take care of it (all but 5-10 minutes) they have this guilty look on their face. They know they went someplace they shouldn't have. It's not that hard to figure out. Yet I'm back to see them within a few weeks, often times with the same malware or virus they had previously.

so you bought OSX or installed a legit copy of OSX, not OSx86 hack, and it worked? yeah... still doubt it. actually i seriously doubt it! seriously seriously doubt it! man, then there's really no need for the OSx86 community is there?
