If you take a look and dissect all of his moves, he really only made 1 huge blunder, which was the Shaq trade. Otherwise getting dudley, richardson, dragic, re-signing Hill, re-signing Nash, were all solid moves if you ask me. Where else did this guy screw up in the eyes of the public really if you take out the shaq trade?

Not really on him, but as a GM he traded Kurt Thomas and two future 1sts, neither protected, for nothing. He also was the GM who traded James Jones and the draft rights to Rudy Fernandez for 3 million cash. Again, that's largely Sarver.

He's made two real mistakes that hurt RIGHT NOW, both involving the Shaq deals. First, acquiring him and then trading him too late and thus not getting Hickson from Cleveland. Kerr originally asked for Wallace/West/Hickson for Shaq last year around the trade deadline. Cleveland balked at West, but was rumored to be willing to include Hickson. Kerr ended up not accepting the Wallace/Hickson/filler deal then, only to accept a Wallace/Pavlovic deal later with no Hickson.

He hasn't had great drafts, first or second round.

He hired Terry Porter when Gentry was an assistant under D'Antoni further compounding his Shaq mistake.

He's certainly not the world's worst, and it can be said many of his mistakes are Sarver pushed, but he's not excelled when needed and even the good done, isn't that good. Ultimately his decision to keep things compe ive will hurt the Suns long-term. Again, this can be attributed to Sarver just as much.

Ben Wallace? Without him, and these injuries, the Pistons would be where the Nets are right now.

Kerr is looking pretty good at the moment, given how well the whole team has gelled this season. But like JMark said, he's made a couple of huge blunders that don't get discussed as much as the Shaq-for-Marion trade. I'm still not a big fan of him, but if this season works out well in the end, I'm a forgiving person.

No one who trades 4 draft picks to the Thunder gets a GM of the Year award. It was Kerr who hired Terry Porter to begin with.

Hill was solid, Frye looks great, Amundson looks solid, Dragic looks solid and Clark has potential. He's done some good things. I was always in favor of the Richardson/Dudley deal and loved Dudley's addition as a "Spurs-type" of acquisition. Lots of good little things. His draft of Lopez over Speights looks silly, and his ac ulation of lesser brothers is unnecessary as Griffin shouldn't be on this roster. Gentry has turned into a of a hire. Timvp promoted his hire early in the search that led to Porter's hire, and now we see why.

However the good, and there's plenty off it, the lack of draft picks, young talent and now the all-in aspects of Hill/Nash extensions and some iffy trades involving quality players or lack of return will keep him from getting the positive attention his lesser moves deserve. You just can't overlook the bigger aspects.

It was only two to the Thunder, I already mentioned the Porter debacle, and I see nothing in Xylus' post that said Kerr deserved the accolades you infer he said.

Sure, you can give him a pass on the KT trade and selling draft picks.

I dont. I would rather quit than be a GM and have to give up an expiring contract and two first round picks for NOTHING. I have too much pride.

And the Terry Porter hiring was embarrassing. I continue to ask what Porter could have POSSIBLY said in his interview to make Kerr think he had the communication skills or basketball knowledge to be a coach.

And then there's the Shaq-aster. Again, my buddy called me the night before the trade to talk about the rumor and I said "NO WAY! They cant possibly so stupid to take on Shaq and his RIDICULOUS contract!"

But they were. Kerr was supposedly the last to sign off on it. I would have quit before I would have agreed to take on a washed up Shaq with three years at 20 million a year left on his contract. As the Suns have shown, they are better off with NOTHING than with SHaq.

Some people give him credit for Grant Hill. DONT. Hill said on national TV (as a guest announcer) that he wanted to come play for the Suns before Kerr was even hired.

Kerr is a puppet and a "yes-man". I have zero respect for him as a PERSON, let alone a GM.
