It's hard to count the '99 team when only one of it's core is actually on the current team...In the era of the big 3, they have won a le after a slow start once and it was during Duncan's prime with DR. It's difficult to see this team being able to duplicate that feat...

im not saying we are winning a championship, im putting things in perspective

2 of the core, dont forget to count the coach, i should have also posted the regular season record to show that we ended up with more that 50 all of those seasons minus the lockout

anyways i just made the post for people to see, after reading about how the spurs have regular slow starts i wanted to see if it was true, i was kinda surprised of the numerous 8-2 records, i know its just 10 games

We did start out 2-4 last season so way too early to panic. We lost three straight home games to open the season.

Last time Spurs lost four in a row, March 12 to March 17, 2008.

    Next opponent: vs. Wizards

Crazy, in 03-04 the Spurs started 10-10 w/ Parker out for the start of the season plus 6 new faces I believe, yet ended 57-25.

Is the result of last season what we are shooting for?

Nobody ing knows what will happen at the end of the season. 2 seasons ago the Spurs shot out of the gate at 14-3, then Duncan went down. The Spurs spent the rest of that season looking up on standings.

Nothing is guaranteed with a Great, Good or Bad start.

True...but having a great start certainly helps your chances to have a great ending. How many 4 and above seeds have won the le? Teams that win early are usually the same ones that win divisions, get HCA, win les...

I understand the core isn't healthy and it's hard to win without them...I just thought we had a deep enough team to be in a better position at this point of the season.

Very true, you won't find any Spur fan that loves this start but it is what it is. They're now at 4-6 and it's up to them to get up and dust themselves off and win some games. Positioning doesn't start until 25 games, which is great considering where the Spurs are at.

Fact check: All 30 and below are held out by Pop. Theoretically, we are only playing Parker, Bonner, Hill and Mason who are below 30.

The Spurs age this year is a little misleading.

Of their healthy active roster (with Mahinmi, Hairston and Haislip inactive) is like 29.8 and oldest in the league (older than Boston and Dallas, I checked).

Not that I'm too worried because of the injuries and new players having to be incorportated...

    but 09-10: 4 & 6

All other comparisons have the Spurs at .500 or better.

That said...this has the makings of being the best championship ever if the Spurs manage to do it.

As the previous poster has stated, this is the worst start for the Spurs in the last 10 years.

Last year they went out in the first round. That was not a championship team with manu playing or not.

I think the real variable isn't the "era" but the number of new rotation players on the team. Has anyone cross-referenced the Spurs' record after 10, 15, and 20 games for these seasons against the number of minutes played by new faces on those teams? My guess is (although I don't have data to back it up) that slower starts correspond to more minutes being played by new players who don't know the system yet.

Pop's system is hard to learn, and complicated. It takes time to figure it out, and he's slow to establish a regular rotation to begin with.

What happened to all the "simplifying the system" talk in the off-season by Pop to help the new guys adjust better? Was it all just lip service?

Some just really like to live in the past and wont let it go...

How much do you really believe the past will help us win a championship this year.
