Oh since when did the MLB have a salary cap?
Real GmThe Lakers have a player payroll of $91.3 million this season and will spend an additional $21.4 million in luxury taxes if their roster remains the same on the final day of the regular season.
Their total salary bill would be $112.7 million if they make no trades or minor free-agent acquisitions. Comparatively, they spent about $86 million last season, including luxury taxes.
That figure does not include Phil Jackson's $12-million salary to coach the team.
"As long as we keep winning, I think he'll keep doing it," center Andrew Bynum said.
Oh since when did the MLB have a salary cap?
And Buss is probably tripling on the money he spends. Shouldn't the Knicks be the Yankees of baseball? They did have the highest payroll for a very long time. And Buss isn't even one of the richest owners in the NBA.
All this shows is that Buss is commited to winning.
Even more hilarious considering SA is paying the luxury tax this season - and they suck.
The baseball equivalent would be like the Pittsburgh Pirates fielding a 150 million dollar squad.
Doesn't that make it WORSE that the Lakers spend so much then genius?
That means the Lakers are going over the top to keeping their players. It's not like baseball, where once free agency starts, it's a free for all. Lakers can't spend more than 6 million on a new player every summer.
This is first season the Lakers have had the highest payroll in quite awhile.
The Yankees payroll is greater than a large chunk of the entire MLB combined, every single year.
best owner in the nba. bangs 20 yr olds and wins
So they're this year's Yankees.
You're stupid. Congrats.
I guess that means the Spurs are this year's Red Sox.![]()
I understand if you're upset your team has to outspend every other team in the league to win but no need to disrespect the Spurs by calling them the Red Sox.
Wow this is really breaking news.![]()
Is this the attempts at trash talk that spurfan has been reduced to?
Sad.
Why would you cut out the rest when it's clear I'm just in around?
I understand that the Spurs having to spend more than 90% of the league and still not coming close to winning a championship makes you upset.
No need to make re ed comparisons that don't make any sense.
Nothing new here...Just shows Buss wants to win. Spurs are over the cap too. Let's not go there...Hate the Lakers all you want, but they're there at the end every year...just like us.
Proof that we spent more than 90% of the league last year?
Hahaha atleast they ain't wasting it like other teams that are spending almost as much..buss is a in G

Amare is getting too much, Gasol is getting a nice check too. Damn, LA is s ing out the bucks.
Laker fans have sticks up collective asses. Must hurt to be faced with the truth.
The Lakers are playing within the established rules, as are the Yankees. As long as they don't break the rules, the amount of their payroll does not diminish their accomplishments or make those achievements illegitimate in any way.
Sharing the Staples Center with Sterling is tacky, but, the windfall must be astonishing.
I got my stick, Shasta. 9 NBA World les under Buss' 30 year stewardship.
